I am going to ask two simple questions –

Whom do you work for?

And why do you do what you do?

We spend over 40 HOURS A WEEK at a job. About a half hour or so getting there. Another half hour getting back.

That is well over a third of our “business week” at a location other than home.

What specific things are you doing in your life to make that significant part of your life a rewarding experience?

Two years ago I left a nice cushy job. Got a job with more authority. Actively lobbied for them to pay for another advanced degree so I could get the piece of paper. All while practicing management / people skills. Read a few books. Had some setbacks…

It doesn’t matter.

That (well over) a third of my life is never going to be devoted to the overall goal of serving someone else’s purpose unless those purposes support mine directly.
