If you could go back and do anything differently at the beginning of your marriage, what would it be?

Be more egotistical and less open to compromise. It's fine to consider your wife's wants and desires, but you'll do a lot better putting your own needs first most of the time. Wife will have a lot more respect for you.

Treat unreasonable requests as shit tests, and not as genuine requests or needs.

It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking "I don't really care that much about X, I guess we can do X her way instead of my way if it makes her happy." But then you end up in a situation where you're doing X the way she wanted to, and she's not happy. And since you're not doing it your way, you're not happy either.

Had you just done X the way you wanted to do it in the first place, wife might or might not be happy, but you'll be happy because you did it the way you wanted to.

I think it may be one of those lessons that can only be learned the hard way.

My answer is short: would have told her earlier what I like in bed instead of dropping ineffective hints for over 10 years before discovering this awesome place :)

Off the top of my head, I married a close friend. It is a long story how that came about, but don't do that.
