Today Wilson is two years into a 10-year prison sentence for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year old girl at a New Year's Eve party three years ago.

He got 10 years for doing the same thing that teachers get 6 months for doing. The difference? He's male, and his 'rape victim' was female.

This article is years old. The guy has already been released and the ~~law declared unconstitutional~~ his punishment ruled "cruel and unusual." Didn't you look at the /r/WTF thread?

What is worse than sexism? Sexism mixed with homophobia mixed with child abuse hysteria and perhaps mixed with some racism.

I have no knowledge the race of the 15 year old, but the 17 year old was black and did not have a clean record, so if the 15 year old was white, this would have been a major factor. Also is the issue that this law was on the books aiming to make homosexual activities illegal (full intercourse would have merely been a misdemeanor). Also on the book is a law basically banning appeals (at least the type of appeal he was going for) for people convicted of sex crimes against minors.

Sexism is definitely part of the problem, but this case shows almost everything wrong with our sex laws.

On the other hand, the description of the video sounds like he might have been having sex with another girl who was passed out. If this is true, then he clearly deserves some punishment (but even so, they should have charged him with the correct crime).

I know there is a need to protect children from being victims of inappropriate sex, but in no way should something your body is telling you to do be criminalized.

edit for clarification: I was trying to come up with a way to say what I meant, but I clearly failed, since you need to be stupidly precise about what you mean here. First, I was going to say "consenting adults," but that brings into question the definition of "adult." Then I was going to say two people who consent. But that brings up the question of, "Well, if a person can talk a 12 year old child into 'wanting' to have sex, does that make it okay?" So then, I went with the idea that it's not right for children to have sex because their bodies just aren't in that natural phase yet. But a 15 year old is full of raging hormones telling him/her to go and have sex; it's the nature telling the body that it's ready. So why criminalize it?

Obviously I am not talking about rape. Just because "my dick said to fuck this 8 year old" that doesn't make it right. Consent, not harming people, etc etc. You know what I mean.

Romeo and Juliet laws take care of this: they provide exclusion to underage sex laws, if the couple is consenting and within a few years of the same age. Varies by state.

Also, it's not wise to videotape your underage sex and drug escapades, especially if you live in the Bible Belt.

A peculiarity of Georgia's laws made it a "a misdemeanour for teenagers less than three years apart to have sexual intercourse," but a felony for them to have oral sex.

Georgia, lol. Oh wait, no, that's horrible. Someone needs to read up on their bases order.
