Reject Calls to Censor the Voices of Australia's Male Victims of Domestic Violence based on Faulty Science and The Lies of Murderers

I urge the Australian government to recognize the dubious nature of a recent taxpayer funded media study, and reject all calls to censor news reports of male victims of domestic and sexual violence in Australia based on its faulty conclusions:

Media often distort domestic violence, study finds - (Claims media is biased against women for over reporting female perpetrators)

“A number of studies found that female perpetrators of violence, including sexual and physical forms of violence, as well as female-perpetrated homicide of a male partner, accounted for a high proportion of the total volume of media reports on violence, despite the rarity of these events.”

This "rarity" is based on science that is actively disputed. Professionals at the "one in three" campaign have a radically different scientific conclusion about the rarity of those events:

One in Three is a diverse group of male and female professionals – academics, researchers, social workers, psychologists, counsellors, lawyers, health promotion workers, trainers and survivor/advocates. The Campaign aims to raise public awareness of the existence and needs of male victims of family violence and abuse;

As the studies government funded authors explain:

Our Watch, chaired by the former senator Natasha Stott Despoja, is a federally funded national body established to address preventing violence against women and their children by motivating community action.

The Australian government is here to tell you what is true and what is false, and to control the media when it gets it "wrong".

The original article continues:

It also found newspapers focused on the method of the murder rather than the history of violence as if it was “more important for readers to know how but not why men kill their partners”.

The reality is that a murderer who believes they can avoid punishment for killing their spouse can invent a history of violence, and their cold, dead victims can't defend themselves from their lies.

Please recall that the Australian government continues to be actively involved in gross human rights violations against male victims of domestic violence:

Action Opportunity: End the Appearance of Misandry and Discrimination at Australia's Domestic Violence Hotline for Men

As Our Watch explains:

End Violence Against Women and Their Children

What our framework makes clear is that gender inequality is the core of the problem and it is the heart of the solution.

Let's change the story: Violence against women in Australia

The government has a predetermined conclusion, and they want to stop reporters from informing the public about the rotting corpses of male victims and their abusive partners, particularly female partners, who murder them, based on faulty government statistics and their murders' lies.

The Australian government wants to silence media that reports such as:

Woman charged with stabbing man with kitchen knife during domestic argument

Backlash and praise for lawyer who spoke out for men: 'This is not and should not be a male versus female thing, it's not gender-bashing but the reality is despite an official equality, our family law system is very female- focused and, frankly, unbalanced.'

Australian domestic violence victim's dog abused and almost murdered by abuser. Police ignore evidence, and charge the victim for restraining abuser. (personal story. The next to be silenced)

Men the often-unreported victims of family violence: "The tragic death of Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh early on Friday has shed a light on the often hidden spectre of men falling victim to family homicide"

Australian media has taken to blocking the comment sections of all articles related to domestic violence so that male victims can't share their experiences.

The reality is that Australian media is already under heavy government pressure to censor reports of male victims and female perpetrators of domestic violence.

I urge you to recognize that the discrimination inherent in this study, the predetermined conclusions, and the media censorship the government is trying to impose are all in support of discrimination against male victims and of violations of Australian law:

Affirming that every individual is equal before and under the law, and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law, without discrimination on the ground of sex ..

Sex Discrimination Act 1984

Discrimination against men, boys, and their children who are victims of sexual violence or domestic violence is a violation of their rights under the Commonwealth Charter.

Human Rights ".. We note that these rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent and interrelated and cannot be implemented selectively. We are implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, colour, creed, political belief or other grounds." ( commonwealth dot org )

Gender Equality: "We recognise that gender equality and women’s empowerment are essential components of human development and basic human rights" ( commonwealth dot org)

Australian men, boys, and their children who are victims of domestic or sexual violence are also victims of illegal discrimination need your help. I urge you to learn to do what is right, to defend the rights of oppressed boy and man victims, to take up the cause of children left fatherless by illegal discrimination, and to plead the case of the widowed second wives of male victims who commit suicide because of the injustices they face.

For now, they must hope for justice, and persevere.
