However, she presented him with a perfect opportunity to underline just how far feminism is detached from 'equality'. If he had have talked about hitting her back (not threatening her but asking the group 'what if I hit her back? this is bullshit. anytime i hit a guy, i am fully prepared to get hit just as hard back (all in good drunken fun). all my guy friends know this... some people are appalled that they hit me, but i love it. i'd rather be treated like a human being, and not be treated based on preconceived notions about my gender and the expected 'gentlemanly behavior.' i'm 6' tall and built like a beast.... that should determine my capability to be hit much more than gender.

Help him out next time man. I have been in a relationship like that before and it is complete HELL. She makes life hell for him, which is obvious, and it probably is worse at home. The people taking her side make his life hell especially when the people on his side don't speak up. It was about a year AFTER the relationship had ended that I found out most of the people taking her side were doing it out of fear and because in most cases they were her friends that saw the real bad stuff. I always felt so alone and couldn't figure out how to show people I wasn't the bad guy. They knew all along, but because if there is a fight between a man and a woman it is so socially ingrained in us to take the woman's side, they did every time. Even if I wasn't defending myself. There were a couple times when people spoke up, but then she would tear that person apart verbally until they left before she focused back on me. So speak up, but be prepared to take some nastiness yourself.
