I was just looking over my post history and realized one of the posts I made a few weeks ago involved advocating for the hardships of men (over on a sub I frequent a lot) and it was not well recieved and had me questioning whether I was sexist.
Some background: I am an advocate for developing infrastructure to get away from car dependency in NA. In this sub a user posted a screenshot of a comment they saw that referenced men as oppressors (cars) and women as victims (cyclists). Of course this was vastly upvoted and various agreed this is a fair analogy.
I took slight offense and challenged the point only to have a mod mention that I am coming off as a men's rights activist. I back pedaled and apologized...but why? I mentioned suicide, loneliness, death, and career identity issues that men face overwhelmingly more than women. What is so extreme about this?
Advocating for my mental health and being in society has gotten to the point where I feel ashamed and think I have extremist viewpoints for not being receptive of predatory titles as a man.
I guess this is kind of a rant in a sub I feel a bit more mentally free to voice my opinion in. Nonetheless, I probably will avoid advocating for men for the future as I really don't see receptive ears or hearts anywhere in western society.
