My wife is a ECE Early Childhood Educator.

They're not allowed to lay a hand on kids. If there's a kid throwing tantrums or some such nonsense you can't grab their arm or something. She says she's been instructed to "Hug the child until they stop kicking, screaming, or biting" It's total fucking nonsense.

The teacher must have been working off a zero tolerance policy and/or covering her own ass from inappropriate contact with the student when he hugged her.

I don't blame the teacher but rather the retarded system in place that makes teachers afraid for their jobs and threat of prison for touching a child.

Middle school is a bit late to be hugging the teacher. As I recall middle school no kid, boy or girl, ran into the open arms of a teacher immediately after a fight, especially out of gratitude- that was face-saving time. I think the kid was trying to be funny in a very wrong way and got called on it.

It's kinda sad that the school system has become so strict that an upset student can no longer obtain even a small measure of comfort from a teacher anymore. A school rule that forbids students from hugging teachers just sounds silly to me.

It's schools like this that make me happy that my public school is run by people with an ounce of common sense. This stuff wouldn't fly here. There's no zero-tolerance for this kind of crap, and zero-tolerance is in effect when it is actually deserved. Last semester, a group of football stars got caught cheating. They actually got in decent trouble for it, and one of the coaches (And one of the best teachers that everyone loves) was the one who reported it.
