I'm working on creating a guide that chronicles what I wish I knew when I was first served, how to avoid wasting thousands on attorneys (I spent $7,000 with no results) and what worked to legally reduce my support (I spent the cost of a filing fee and reduced my support by $200/m). I have a few questions, if you don't mind...

  • 1) After being served, what was your first step? Call an attorney, search Google on what to do, what?
  • 2) What things were the most difficult to find answers to?
  • 3) Did you retain an attorney or represent yourself? How did you make this decision?
  • 4) Have you ever filed for a modification? What challenges did you encounter along the way?
  • 5) What did you wish you would have done differently from the beginning? What have you done that has helped?
  • 6) Have you tried any online resources/courses in an attempt to learn more about child support/tactics/help/coping? Did you like them? What did you like/dislike about them if you did? What could have been improved?

Thanks for your time everyone If there's anything I can help with let me know too!

edit: sorry for the flare issue/double discussion tag!

edit 2: Just incase anyone stumbles upon this, I changed it to an 8 questions survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LTMWNXX
