HPV now causes more throat cancer in men than cervical cancer in women in most developed countries at this point because of this exact reason. Somehow governments collectively decided HPV and the consequences of it are only an issue for women.

It's mouth and throat cancer that is an epidemic and caused by female to male transmission of HPV during oral sex. 12000 cases a year in just the US, non-smoking, 80% young and male. Surprised it's not in the news? It affects men so I'm not surprised.

All men, and especially men who go down on women should get the HPV vaccine.

The number of oropharyngeal cancers linked to HPV has risen greatly over the past few decades. These cancers are becoming more common in younger people who have a history of multiple sex partners (including oral sex) and no history of alcohol abuse or tobacco use. Oropharyngeal cancers linked to HPV infection tend to have better outcomes (prognoses) than tumors not caused by HPV because chemotherapy and radiation treatments work better for these cancers. This improvement in outcome however is not seen in people with HPV-related oropharyngeal cancers who also smoke.

HPV is transmitted to the mouth and throat mostly by performing oral sex and appears to cause about 70 percent of oropharyngeal cancers. These cancers appear at the back of the throat, base of the tongue, or tonsils. Each year in the United States, there are about 12,000 cases of these HPV-associated cancers, more than 80 percent of them in men*, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The incidence of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer has been rising since the 1980s, and in the past two decades has doubled among men. HPV is also considered the chief cause of most cervical, vaginal, penile and anal cancers.*

In Finland HPV vaccine became part of the national vaccination program (means free) for girls in 2013 and for boys in 2020. Initially THL thought that vaccinating boys is useless. This changed when other countries vaccinated boys as well and saw good results in both boys and girls. Thus they created a research and simulation for vaccinating boys as well.

They claim: "Initially we had no information whether vaccinating boys was useful or not". I can not prove that this is a lie but I am quite sure. Gladly available for all kids now.

HPV vaccination is a great way to reduce risk for cancer and cuts off a sizeable amount of cancer patients. Better life for individual and less healthcare costs for government.

This isn't gender discrimination. This is purely money driven.

You have a disease that spreads from group A to group B (and back) but not within group A or group B. You can therefore get the full benefit of herd immunity for half the price by immunising one group. Pick the one that suffers more from the disease and go hard.

As we've seen with Covid, there is only so fast we can manufacture and administer vaccines. You get a better return from investment targeting the vaccines at girls in the same way Covid vaccines were targeted at elderly and healthcare workers.

Canada has recommend HPV vaccines for men for some time. If you are above 27, male or above 45 female, they typically do not administer unless there are certain issues. It is approved for men up to 40 tho, just not recommended unless you fit certain criteria.

HPV4 or HPV9 vaccine is recommended for prevention of anogenital cancer and genital warts in boys and men, 9 to less than 27 years of age. HPV4 or HPV9 vaccine may be administered to men 27 years of age and older at ongoing risk of exposure. HPV2 vaccine is not authorized for use in boys and men.
