A quick google search returned a lot of "the first home computers became available, advertisement targetted only boys and men, they got a head start and subsequently performed better than women, women were discouraged and bailed out".
Whether that's accurate or not I have no idea. I've read through some articles and most contain leftist gibberish about muh sexism, so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Just a week or two ago I got accepted to change my major from Electrical Engineering + A related sci/eng degree to Joint Hons Philosophy and Poli Sci and I certainly don't regret it.
This is considering the fact that I'm going into my second year and my family is broke as shit. It just feels a lot more meaningful to go into law or politics or even policy analyzing than to spend the rest of my life designing circuits for some large company (although I love math, and am trying to tack on a minor in it). And yes, at the time of switching out I had a very good GPA and a huge chunk of my cohort switched/failed out, so it didn't have to do with my grades. It feels worth the government debt.
The eng majors I came across in my short time (and still are friends with quite a few) weren't as bad they are usually characterized to be, but some certainly are ignorant enough to spout the bs that guy up there did.
Also, self-defeating idiots. If everyone gets a STEM degree, the wages and career opportunities will inevitably decrease due to a glut of labor. The best of the best will be fine, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be a near median skill engineer if everyone went to college for STEM.
It's a well-established trend that men tend to go into STEM fields (and earn STEM degrees) at a higher rate than women. If you think he's being insulting towards women for pointing out their stupid choices, then whatever. Funny thing is that his criticism will never be as damaging as people overpaying for useless degrees.
When you have taxpayer-funded loans for that exact purpose, you (as an institution) are stupid if you don't drive your tuition fees through the roof because you're just refusing to take free money. They'll come anyways, whether a semester costs 700 or 7000, because they a) want to go to university and b) will be granted the loans almost certainly. The problem comes later when you're supposed to work up 50-100 grand so you can pay your loans back.
For comparison, my tuition including books and stuff is 2000-ish a year, rent is 500 a month in a shared flat so I pay about 8000 a year.
Switzerland. It's directly federally funded, the county's extremely wealthy and we don't have that many universities to begin with, so the base tuition is extremely affordable.
Of course it's a racket, a brilliant one at that. What has happened is that people with no employable skills have turned to academia for a job (e.g. feminists, closet commies, sjw types and so on), and now their modus operandi is to leech off of the next generation while poisoning their minds.
Those kids graduate and think they're smart but have nothing the private market wants, so they end up in low-end jobs. Unfortunately, they also have a buttload of student loans, so they do the only thing they can do: doctorate and go back to teaching - the cycle continues.
Not arguing with you but just to point out useless degrees: there was a dude who went to my private university who blew $160k worth of tuition / room and board for a bachelor's degree in - wait for it - "spreading happiness".
This drives me crazy. I hold a PhD and was paid a salary during my PhD. PhD students get stipends. The American taxpayer pays for PhDs, not the students, and this is true in almost every degree program in the United States.
My PhD cost the US taxpayer around $750,000.
What I will grant you is that I got my PhD in a field that isn't incredibly stupid and discovered a few scientific facts that were worth the money. That's why I still do science full-time.
I was paid about $40,000 stipend each year. My tuition was covered for tens of thousands per year. An overhead fee was assessed on all research expenditures. Then we get to equipment, travel, and miscellaneous costs.
There are such chances in certain fields and if you have high enough GPA/test scores. Once PhD candidates are accepted in these programs they can work as TAs to pay for their tuition, and in the end they only owe a couple thousand. This is at least how I'm hoping it will be for me.
This is still incorrect. PhD students are paid. They do not end up in the hole. They do not get partial tuition coverage. When I got my PhD the tuition was fully-covered by my fellowship and I made a paycheck on top of that from the university. In the disciplines that aren't cash-positive for the school, the students often have to work, but this isn't simply for the purpose of paying their tuition. They get a stipend.
This post and most of these comments are a cancer to this sub.
Women, even feminists, aren't our enemies; the system is the problem.
And yes I know that this clip is gross misrepresentation. But saying:
"feminist cancer"
Fortunately, the world's meltiest snowflakes can always marry-up and spread some of that burden onto their oppressors.
shill out 120 grand for a PhD in 18th century lesbian poetry.
Which is why they still marry up so men can pay their debts off and they don't have to worry about it like those evil, overly empowered, undereducated menz.
Well yeah, that and DAD I WANT TO GO TO ART SCHOOOOOOOL
that's because they major in "Womens/Gender studies"
...just makes you look like a feminist-hating douchebag.
If MR is going to be taken seriously, and not be another pseudo hangout for anti-feminist rhetoric, we need to be better.
Now I fully expect this to hit -50 by morning because I'm in disagreement with the angry folk.
I'm with you. I'm just scrolling through r/all, and I see these comments. D:
Catherine does seem like she wants to sway her readers into thinking that the reasons why this is happening is due to oppression, but I'd rather focus on this system problem you speak of.
Assuming what she and Space are saying is true -- The Safest Space helps explain why women hold a larger portion. If it takes us longer to pay off student debt, I wouldn't be surprised if it's because of the income difference. If you look at jobs mainly dominated by women, they tend to pay less (eg, teachers, social workers, secretaries). For guys, you can think of jobs like construction work, engineering, programming, etc. Also as mothers, women are more likely to take time off of work than fathers -- that could include quitting and becoming stay-at-home moms instead. That's more of a cultural thing, though -- systematic when you consider not everyone gets paid parental leave.
fuck off with your concern trolling, I don't need to show respect to a hate cult that wants me dead, imprisoned or otherwise removed from public life on the basis of skin colour and gender.
I totally agree with you for the most part your post has an issue:
Posts like this are why no one takes the men's rights movement seriously.
Why would my feminist ass want to listen to anything you have to say now?
It goes both ways. Men's Rights movements are constantly insulted and demeaned by feminist groups, and in retaliation feminist groups are constantly insulted and demeaned by men's rights groups. It's a vicious cycle, and both sides are to blame.
I just want you to consider that your comment itself is doing the same thing that OP is doing and we all need to cut it out and work together. We all have shit, and have to realize that the loudest, most ignorant, and obnoxious of both groups don't represent the groups as a whole.

It depends on how you define worthless.
From an economic standpoint, anything that does not yield an acceptable rate of return is a pointless investment regardless of your personal preferences. From a personal preference standpoint, anything you don't like doing is a worthless degree (since it's not worth pursuing to you). From a scientific standpoint, any degree that does not play a role in expanding the total knowledge of mankind is worthless.
In an ideal world, you could focus on the second standpoint, ignore everything else and live happily ever after. Fortunately, we don't live in an ideal world.

[+]anonymous_troll points [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
This is still incorrect. PhD students are paid. They do not end up in the hole. They do not get partial tuition coverage. When I got my PhD the tuition was fully-covered by my fellowship and I made a paycheck on top of that from the university. In the disciplines that aren't cash-positive for the school, the students often have to work, but this isn't simply for the purpose of paying their tuition. They get a stipend.

This post and most of these comments are a cancer to this sub.
Women, even feminists, aren't our enemies; the system is the problem.
And yes I know that this clip is gross misrepresentation. But saying:
...just makes you look like a feminist-hating douchebag.

I totally agree with you for the most part your post has an issue:
It goes both ways. Men's Rights movements are constantly insulted and demeaned by feminist groups, and in retaliation feminist groups are constantly insulted and demeaned by men's rights groups. It's a vicious cycle, and both sides are to blame.
I just want you to consider that your comment itself is doing the same thing that OP is doing and we all need to cut it out and work together. We all have shit, and have to realize that the loudest, most ignorant, and obnoxious of both groups don't represent the groups as a whole.
