Ideas for safe places for men to volunteer?

Public food pantries/kitchens, though in my experience you will likely be one of the only men there, thus asked to do all the heavy lifting.

My city does “clean up” days for public parks and other spaces, usually a good mix of gender and ages there, and the people are social. Though there are clearly a few people who go just for the socializing and do little cleaning…but everyone who does actually put in effort doesn’t like them haha.

I saw a lot of men volunteering with kids that weren't seen as creeps. It's usually things like sports theatres, arts

It's mostly I think to do stuff in an environment where you won't be alone and vulnerable to accusations

This is why it is so important for EVERYONE to call out toxic attitudes towards men and not just agree with the women to try to get laid.

"do you know he is a child abuser, or are you assuming?"
"what makes you think he has done that?"
"oh, so you haven't actually seen him do that?"

Community garden or conservation club are good options for outdoors stuff. DIY workshops if you have skill in using tools and making/fixing things. Library is an option since you like reading.

In my experience with working with kids, the groups and kids are usually thrilled to have a guy take an interest in what they're doing, and accusations of being a creep are pretty rare (unless you actually do something creepy of course) so don't let that put you off if it's something you'd like to be involved with.

To be honest, you should be fine at a school. I work with kids constantly and they were excited to have a male staff, saying how it's important for kids as some of them lack a positive male adult influence in their life. Another positive being how because we are more physically capable, we can be more engaged in physical activities with the kids.

To those who want to nitpick, this is not to say that female staff do not get phsyically involved with the kids, as I have seen them do exactly the same thing as me. I'm just able to for longer than the women I work with, and can take part in more intensive activity

Animal shelter would be awesome! Always in need of volunteers, and we’re thrilled when we get male volunteers cause they’re often better able to handle the strong/boisterous dogs!

I understand your concern. One thing you could do with your time is to bond with your kid's friends, particularly those who might be at risk and need a positive adult role model. This could also impact your kid's confidence and standing in his class.

Just go to your local church and see what you can do

Setup your own organisation

Can't volunteer with any kid's organization or be labeled a possible creep

Not entirely true, I know 2 blokes who've done the latter. 1 basically just drags a bunch of kayaks down to beach with life jackets and let's people use them (donations accepted)

Other just goes round to parks setting up obstacle courses, leaps of faith, rock climbing etc.

It's just knocking about with kids outdoors building up their confidence which is honestly something men do best 💪

Years ago I got a dog from an animal shelter. I gave them a donation and I also subscribed to their newsletter as a way to regularly donate some money. In the newsletters, they constantly asked for volunteers.

One day I just turned up to volunteer but the women there told me that one of the dogs they had did not like men and would attack me. Most dogs were in large cages but this aggressive dog was allowed to run loose.

Start or join an enviromental group and go out planting trees.

It's a huge sense of achievement for each one you plant, knowing you are making a difference with each and every action.

I'd say volunteer at educational institutions which work with underprivileged kids. I am not volunteering with a group which provides English education in third world countries. Nobody cares about your gender there.

To expand on animal shelters, in our area the website is updated with pictures and descriptions by volunteers and even spending the little bit of time with each animal to gain the insight for the description is a wonderful feeling.

My buddy used to volunteer at an old folks home by reading to them. Super mellow and he made a lot of connections there. So if you like old people that could be an option. They won't care that you're a man and who knows, you might meet a normal, cute nurse in the process.

As men are movements are very limited. Men must consider where we can go, volunteer, or just plain walk about in malls, near schools etc, I volunteer at our local animal rescue group. I like animals way more than humans anyway. Because COVID is slowing any help you can give to animals is a plus.
