This is bullshit. When you have two fit parents and one is deployed, obviously the children live full-time with their other parent. I can't believe that a court would rule otherwise.

Flip the genders. You're a dad with shared physical custody. Your ex-wife deploys. Her new husband wants court-ordered access to your child, including overnights, while she's gone.

You would shit a brick, would you not?

I'm all for civil relations between exes and involved and affectionate stepparents, but the relationship with the parents is the only relationship that the courts have any business enforcing. If you want Skype access to your kid while you are deployed, then petition for THAT.
