I went with my two nieces to the park and no less than 5 women were like "hello, do you know this man" while staring at me. The 4th time all decorum left my body. My niece was like IT'S MY FUCKING UNCLE (she was 7 at the time) then looked at me - "sorry for saying a bad word". It was adorable. My brother says he catches it all the time, too when he takes them outside of town.

It's kind of ridiculous, like you want kids to be safe and being vigilant is one thing, but now I won't look in the direction. Sometimes when you're shopping for groceries, little kids are playful, they might wave from the cart or whatever and you can't wave back or smile, otherwise you're "creepy". Nope.

Happened to me in a park when my kid was 2 yo. A lady called the cops on me because I stopped my son to play with the fountain (6pm in December, so the water was freezing cold) and he started crying.

I am a lawyer, I explained the situation, but when the cop started to get nasty I asked to be taken to the police office together with the lady, took a pic of the cop and asked to talk to their CO. This worked as bliss.

Sometimes you don’t want to discuss with the troopers. They are the arms and legs of justice, not the brain. Talking to a commanding officer is usually a better option.

My 2 cents and no offence meant to anybody. Plenty of good cops around. This comment applies to those who are not good ones.

My dad raised 3 girls solo and he wasn't even "allowed" to bring us into the parenting rooms (unisex bathroom for parents) because he was a man... how is it a parenting bathroom if only women are allowed in? There was a women's panel the other year which I was watching - it was quote good, and I'm a fan of it; 1--2 of the 4 or 5 women panelists said that they think this sort of thing is an immense problem which many men, including men who are father's and who are not fathers, often face because of the societal perception of men as child molesters and or pedophiles, which I agree with.

One of the panelists told viewers a story about one of her men relatives was outside a school for young children and was side-eyed and given dirty looks for picking up his female relative; he thinks this was done because he is a man with a young girl, which I and some of the panelists agree with.

I think the societal perception of men as necessarily sexually abusive and or pedophilic is quite harmful and does no justice to boys or men who will almost inevitably face these struggles when they get to a certain age in their life.

Though it is not the exact same in practice, it is similar in principle, as this post brings to mind something that I think a politician in the UK said about men a few years ago - she said something to the affect of her believing that men's ought not be allowed to become babysitters or something because men are overwhelmingly the child molesters and pedophiles society.

My ex wife kidnapped two of my three sons (7 yo twins) and has blocked me from seeing them. I’ve done everything to get them back and for more than a year it’s all failed. About 10 months ago she took them to a hypnotist, then a psychotherapist, then the social agency, and then they all went to the police with a picture of a circumcised penis one of my sons drew. Not one of the idiots involved in this case cares about my concerns one of mama’s carousel of boyfriends and nights over in company of my sons at strange houses with strange men might have molested them. Even the police don’t care.

Now my sons are 8. I saw them about a month ago for the first time, and the one who I thought might be ok also drew a penis, handed to me, and said, “This is what I think of you.” The penis he drew is uncircumcised. He did this IN FRONT OF THE SOCIAL AGENTS, IN THE SOCIAL AGENCY, ON CAMERA, BEING RECORDED. No one cared. The social agents said it’s because apparently I traumatized him so deeply. When I pointed out to them that I only have one penis, so clearly they’re being exposed to a variety of penises to draw them so well at 8 years of age, they claimed it’s my fault. WTH?

Meanwhile my two sons have failed second grade for the second year in a row because my ex has kept them out of all school (again, no one cares). The boy who refused to go with his mother when she took the twins (because he remembers her abuse of him)… he has graduated each class with top marks, won international competitions for his age group (9 yo), and is doing a number of things (making games in Scratch and such), and drawing pictures slot happy families, animals, nature, and things he likes.

The system is totally fucked up when it comes to women not being punished and men being assumed as criminals. It’s an absolute shit show - and as I’ve seen over the last year, not a soul in power cares. My belief is, people who ‘help hurt birds’ get promoted faster, irrespective of their agency or job title. So, save a woman in distress or a damaged child, pin it on the father, and you get a promotion (my assumption, not confirmed as fact, but if the shoe fits…).

Obviously it’s not every member of every agency - but spit in a pot of soup and see who cares about the rest of the soup being fine.

I’m a woman and it’s actually worrying how trusting people are with me and their kids. I always thought it was because I was trustworthy and didn’t look scary but after seeing posts like this, I quickly saw it was because I was a woman. I’ve had experiences of people leaving the room or even the park and telling me to watch their kids and I’m just sitting there like “You just met me! Why would you leave your kids with a stranger?!”

This is even more sad cause we’ve seen incidents like the Moors Murders or Sylvia Likens, so you’d think people would be more careful with women but people still have blind faith that a woman will just keep their kids protected. This worries me even more because I want to get married and have kids and now I’m worried my husband could go through something like this. Sorry this happens to you guys.

Well many valid and invalid points are raise. Most notably that in essence this is a case of over concerned strangers and cops without a clue of basic professional conduct especially in situations involving kids.

But the point op raises is also valid in my eyes. We as society still hold a strong belive that woman are motherly and caring and men aren't. We hold it to be true that the predators are nearly exclusively men when abuse happens regardless of the gender of the perpetrator.

We hold many harmful believes about men and woman and that men are predators is just one of them... I belive in general the whole stranger danger thing does not encourage a healthy and strong position for children. What the cops did, and possibly (possibly) the people who called them, was evil, in my opinion. 40 fucking minutes, and there was prob no retribution or anything remotely like that afterwards. There's never remorse or emotional payment when cops do this. They basically leave you as barely, if maybe not even, off the hook, and the feeling from them is that you are lucky to be let go, even though you didnt do anything. Like I said, he's not even off the hook, cause suppose he gets pulled over or something at another time and they see this whole thing had taken place, or something happens where he is around another crime. Some quick stats: An estimated 1 - 5% of men are pedophiles. The large majority won't harm a kid in their lives. A lot of people who harm children aren't even pedos on top of that, and do it because children are very easy to exploit and manipulate.

In a public setting, a bunch of people keeping watch on a single male with a child is really enough to notice anything before it happens, IF it happens. Intense suspicion really is enough.

Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying assume every guy is a pedo. I'm saying that if you MUST be that cautious, don't call the cops if nothing has happened. Also recognize that there are probably near as many female pedophiles as there are male pedophiles.

Yeah this would make most people nervous, I feel like this kinda makes sense lol. To detain someone you just need a reasonable suspicion a crime was committed, I think that’s pretty reasonable.
