These things have no place in the men's movement, and if I'm being honest, they are actually ruining the men's movement.

Now, before I start, I'd just like to say that I was actually going to make a post about the complexity of society's dismissal of male rape victims (don't worry, I'm still going to make that post!) but...something happened, and I decided to address this instead. Don't get me wrong, I was eventually going to talk about this issue, but since something came up, I decided to tackle this.

Secondly, this is not about me, I will share my story but I've seen many many other 'mras' actively promote harmful beliefs, and this is for ALL of them, not just the person I interacted with. That being said, let's move on.

I really want the men's movement to thrive. I know I'm young, but I do what I can to help the men's movement. I raise men's issues in my home country of Kenya, I am attempting to start an MRM club at my university, I make videos raising awareness, I interview other men's rights advocates in an attempt to give them a voice (You can see my youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_3ceMg7Vj5JoAQE_lIJIXg) I make countless posts here and on the main mensrights forum, and I even have my own discord server, which you can join here: https://discord.gg/qhhZuzNAKG

Some of you might even know me from my posts here. My following might be small but it is growing, and the best thing other MRAs can do is to help magnify our voices. I am an Indian female MRA, and I am very proud of that. But it occurred to me that some people might have a problem with this...

Some of you might be familiar with the honey badgers, a group of extremely popular female MRAs, they have many fans and I adore their videos. So after I got invited to join their fans' discord server, I readily accepted. Most of the server is hidden behind a paywall (I don't have a problem with this by the way) but I'm but a poor uni student, so I didn't pay it. I wanted to eventually, but, after what happened I don't think I will (Insert Captain America meme here)

I noticed a lot of messages were being sent on one of the free channels, so I joined. And the first thing I see there was very blatant misogyny. NOTE: I'm not one of those people who uses the term misogyny lightly. I don't think men calling a woman pretty, or believing in tradgender roles, or criticizing one woman is misogyny. But what I saw here was ACTUAL misogyny. One of the users was saying that he believed that women were incapable of love (he later clarified that he might that it was not an evolutionary requirement for women like it was for men, which I disagree with, but I needed to put that out) and so I rightfully got defensive and upset. in response to this, one of the users proceed to say that all women are subhuman, used insults that are used by extreme incels, said that being born a woman was a 'birth defect', that she hated all women, and a bunch of more ridiculous misogyny. This wasn't 'women should be in the home' stuff, this was 'I think women are subhuman' stuff. Of course, I fired back at her. She then proceeded to throw slurs at me for being Indian, and I didn't respond by making fun of her race.

Worse yet, no one asked her to stop or even say they disagreed with her. Instead, they all ganged up on me for replying to her insults, while ignoring her continuously insulting me. So, on top of being racist and genuinely misogynistic, they were also being extremely hypocritical.

Now, this is a big deal because Honey Badger Radio is quite a famous MRA group, and they were even in Cassey Jaye's Red Pill movie. So imagine someone is curious about the Men's movement, and they join that discord server, and the FIRST thing they see is a person saying all women are subhuman, being female is 'birth defect' and making blatantly racist comments. I mentioned this and the response was that people hate the MRM anyway, so there's no point NOT being racist and misogynistic, which is ridiculous.

I KNOW there will always be people who argue in bad faith, that does NOT mean that we should lower ourselves to their level. I KNOW there will always be people who call us misogynistic no matter what we do, but even if we can prove to a few that we aren't and we change people's minds, it is enough.

The racist and misogynistic person continued to say that the reason they were racist and misogynistic to me is because she wants to gatekeep the movement, basically 'purity testing' me. We had a number of purity testers on our other MRM servers, and we banned them because they did nothing but cause trouble. The MRM is small enough as it is, pushing people who ISNT a raging misogynist and racist out out of the movement is stupid at best and self-sabotaging at worst.

I'm sorry this is getting so long, but I have also seen extreme far right co opt the MRM to argue that muslim/arab/indian men do not deserve to live, to ban them from entering other countries, to humiliate and abuse gay men, and to legitimately argue that women are 'inferior' to men. These people should not represent our movement, I know we cannot stop them completely, but we must do what we can to ensure that this movement remains woman, POC, and LGBT friendly.

I'm not gonna lie down and watch this movement go to shit, I'm going to work to foster change in the movement until rational people understand that we are not like this.

I would just like to end on a positive note. 99% of the people I have met on the MRM have been lovely, supportive, people. All of you have supported me and didn't put down my gender or my race (or my sexuality either, lol). This is a wonderful, powerful movement, we DO NOT deserve to get lumped in with a bunch of sexist, racist, homophobic individuals.

i'm trying to fight against this by fostering a positive and open community, you can join my discord here: https://discord.gg/qhhZuzNAKG

Please consider joining if you agree with what I'm saying. Thanks :)
