The entire article seems to aim to dehumanize men and appeal to women in such a way that it comes off as not being offensive. While some of his points do have some truth to them, the way he presents them is as if he has just done some sort of scientific research on the mating habits of seagulls rather than on psychological influences on human beings.

The r/mr was actually pretty accurate, though I don't think it's weird. Imagine that, people actually enjoy seeing entitled people take a blow to the ego. How terribly sexist, since everybody empathizes with and feels bad for a guy who has a similar situation happen to him.

Hell, at the end of An Officer and a Gentleman, Richard Gere walks into the lady's workplace and just carries her out like he's picking up a suit at the dry cleaner.

This one is just plain sexist, and falls prey to the spotlight fallacy. I haven't discussed fetishes with very many people, but I know of two girls and no guys that do it in public. Guess which gender a) can do it significantly less conspicuously, b) are less likely to get called out on it, and c) are less likely to make the papers if so?

Comparing Charlie Sheen and Joey is disgusting, but whatever. The rest of it is garbage. No, I'm not resentful because I'm not an asshole everybody hates. I think the American Pie movies show it well, with the character Stiffler; he's exactly that guy, and it's made abundantly clear (and explicitly stated) that everybody hates him. That's what real life is like.

This is a funny article (funny if it weren't so sad that MRAs get stereotyped into these categories). There is nothing "Modern" about these attitudes, and to say all men, or a majority of men, or even a significant amount of "modern", educated, responsible men think this way is total bullshit.

It's like people are still defining men based on traditionalist stereotypes fit to a modern sexual code. Dude, I don't know any man that thinks this way in the article and if he did he would get a pat on the shoulder and some real advice.

It is so easy to get away with labeling men as misogynists it's laughable, if it wasn't outrageous.

What a load of trash. The amount of misconceptions, misrepresentations and falsehoods being projected against men(which ho not only gets wrong but are offensive for the mere implication) and then "femsplained" in a way that is completely dismissive of men, male perspectives and reality. He even misconstrues a line from a song of ice and fire completely and used it as a justification for his own delusional interpretation and further disdain for men. The only redeeming quality of this verbiage is that it demonstrates the extent of the harm, self-hatred and misandry which feminism imposes on men like this one.

He demonizes ALL men for the firebrand sexism of a few. I wonder how gay guys, feminine guys, eunuchs, and trans guys fit into his ideology?

What makes it even worse is that the article is highly critical of males, on a male-oriented site, but is addressed to only female readers. He has to know it will be mostly males who read his article. Is he hoping to get some rush of glee in making them feel terrible about themselves? Because he has to know it won't be women that are reading this. I mean, it'd be a bit like a writer on FoxNews making an article titled "Hey Muslims. Here's why all Christians are a bunch of asshole bigots."

An interesting bit of writing if it were a fiction. It goes to show how creative writing can be constructed and presented in such a way to sound convincing. Sad thing is people fall for it. Draw on some well-known stereotypes, provide a few anecdotes, and dabble a few pop culture references, then baby you've got a feminist stew goin'.

How about how modern women are trained to hate other women? A women wants to be a housewife and caregiver for her children, her friends judge her and say she must be oppressed by her husband. Then she gets a career, maybe starts a small business, her "friends" think she's a bad wife/mother because she's spending less time with her husband/kids. Not to mention being judged on the clothes she wears, the car she drives, and based on the profession of her husband (me).

This is written by a man trying so hard to write for women that he writes like a woman. A feminist woman of the Jezebel variety. All snark, condescension and pop culture stereotypes - and zero comprehension of actual gender dynamics, especially masculine ones.

Take this paragraph for example. Amanda Marcotte could have written this. In fact, I think she did:

Men are not the same as one another. Neither are women. This whole male/female dichotomy can't reasonably be taken very far. The people having it the worst in the world are males as well as females of extreme poverty. The people having it the best are men as well as women of vast wealth, though the women may not show up as well in studies (f.ex. due to not having official control over resources, which means nothing if we are studying standard of living).

"Men" are not the ones putting anybody in a burqa, forcing anyone out of the workplace, or any such thing. In fact, the vast majority of men are unskilled workers with no significant degree of power over anything whatsoever. You simply, logically, can not make such statements about "men", it will always miss the mark quite awfully.

We really need to stop our attitude towards stuff like that. We developed something like a chain when presented with articles we disagree with:

I disagree with the article
That means the author is wrong
That means he's either stupid or has bad motives
That means he's a bad person and the article is bad

Let's grow up, people. I disagree on some points, agree with others. Media does show women as trophies for the hero - but aren't there also male trophies (Prince Charmings) for heroines? I also think it's a fact that we see women to much as decoration. After my country got Merkel as chancellor, all the comedy revolved around the fact that she was ugly - that is stupid and sexist.

Shouldn't MR also like #1? Many of us do feel powerless in certain areas and we have good reason to do so.

This is clearly satirical. Consider this passage from his last point:

Go look at a city skyline. All those skyscrapers? We built those to impress you, too. All those sports you see on TV? All of those guys learned to play purely because in school, playing sports gets you laid. All the music you hear on the radio? Interesting article, however I have my doubts about the objectivity of the author. Some easy signs to pick up on when an author steers the facts to support their conclusion rather than an unbiased research is the copious use of "always" and "never". While I understand that the article is never expressed as non biased, pulling partial truths makes me immediately dismiss the source as credible. Even if the article is pushing I support, I would rather have no support over support so poorly constructed that it ends up hurting worse than helping.

I think it is more about resentment towards the privileged gender. It's anger about being marginalized. It's about, as men, being viewed as disgusting, violent, oppressive, abusive and privileged, when in fact, men are disadvantaged on almost every single quantifiable metric.

Does society instill unrealistic visions of what life should be like, and that men are entitled to certain unrealistic and unhealthy fantasies regarding women? Sure. But I don't think it's the main source of anger for most men.

Regardless of its source, however, the anger is misplaced, and should not be aimed at women.

It should be aimed at society and the media for propagating the image of men as bumbling idiots, or violent criminals, at feminism for perpetuating the myth of "male privilege" and "patriarchy", at politicians for writing biased and sexist legislation into law, and at judges and law enforcement for actively discriminating against men.
