Couldn't believe how many terrible takes there were on the thread you are referring to.

The prevailing sentiment seemed to be that a man in a committed relationship should never ask a woman for a paternity test. Why? Because doing so is apparently the same thing is accusing your wife of cheating on you, and a huge insult that will hurt the woman's feelings, end of story, full stop. Numerous people claimed that they would ask for a divorce on the spot.

The majority could literally not understand that a man asking for a paternity test is not automatically an accusation of cheating. I think it has to do with the fact that in their minds, as mothers who know that they themselves absolutely did not cheat, they expect men to trust that without question. The thing is that they don't have to trust in anything - they know with 100% certainty that the child is theirs. Husbands might also have the same level of trust towards their wife , but cannot know for CERTAIN that the child is theirs in the same way they do! A paternity test allows for the playing field to be leveled in this regard.

I can understand the emotional reasoning behind feeling upset about your partner wanting a paternity test if this was something that was never discussed in the relationship before. However, I think that holding onto that resentment and making it all about how your partner made YOU feel about HIS need for a paternity test is completely selfish, and shows a lack of empathy towards his position as the father.

when i was still in elementary/middle school.(oh so many decades ago) they would have the biology students type their own and their parents blood.

they had to stop doing it because every year kids would learn that their fathers could not possibly BE their fathers. it was causing so much family turmoil they eventually stopped doing it.

IMO opinion DNA tests should be mandatory before the state can order any financial support from a "father". If a guy wants to support a child that's not his, that's their prerogative, but the state should never force it.

When I was doing the data processing for a charity that was doing research on genetic disease, the standard expectation of the panel of experts was that one in seven people who agreed to take part would misname their genetic father. On processing survey data, it did indeed turn out that 14% of subjects were wrong about who their genetic father was - and this is only for those cases where both people named as genetic parents volunteered to also take part in the survey.

Interestingly, about 1 in 2700 (not statistically reliable because of the low number) of women named as mothers were also not the genetic parent. I suspect that society in general would be much more concerned that 0.0004% of mothers are bringing up a child not their own than 14% of 'fathers'.

As a men's rights issue, we must also acknowledge that around one seventh of men screwing around would not be likely to support any measure to make them accountable for their own children. Think about that next time you come across a man vehemently opposed to rights for men!

Using numbers from 2019 about 0.03% of women are raped each year. If we assume there's severe under reporting and there is and we assume only 4% of rapes get reported, thats about 0.75% of women that are raped each year. That's a lot, low lower than a 3-4% rate for paternity fraud but not only is rape a crime with significant penalties and special legal and criminal divisions linked to it but its also constantly talked about and vilified (as it should be). The reason paternity fraud is ignored isn't because of the low % of cases but cause the victims are men. Women know that some of their sisters carry out the alpha fucks beta bucks strategy and cuckold their men and they don't wanna stop these women from getting their way. They'd rather see men suffer than have women be held responsible, for their actions.

1-3% is a downplay. The 20-30% is of people who actually got tested, I would guarantee that it is a minimum of 30% for dudes who are naive enough to believe blindly that their women wouldn’t do that to them.

Not only does a man spend his life slaving away to pay child support he doesn’t owe, these kids (some of them) grow up thinking that the man is their dad only to find out years later that he’s not their dad. Why those mothers are perfectly comfortable putting their children and those men through so much heartache is beyond me. Just utterly heartless.

Y'all should have seen the post about this dad that didn’t know he had a kid until 3 months ago (mom did not tell him) and after meeting a few times the 18 year old girl asked to move in with him because her mom was kicking her out. He expressed some hesitancy at allowing her to move in with him because after all although he is her father, she is a complete stranger and a woman at that. Better to be cautious than to jump in headfirst and die. But never mind, people aren’t rational at all. Almost 80% of the comments were attacking this man and accusing him of being a horrible uncaring father who didn’t love his daughter and that he owed her a place to live because he didn’t pay child support.

Edit: I mean thank you as in, thanks for pointing this out. I’m not a man but it annoys me every time some women make light of this issue.

In real terms it's close to 33%, 1 out of 3 children in the U.S. are being raised by men who are not their bio father's. This does not mean nor include step fathers; it is specific to men who are under the guise that the child they believe is there's in fact is not.

So, hot take here.

Taking DNA tests as they currently exist is extremely foolish for a plethora of reasons.

I would never consent to give my DNA to be tested FOR ANY REASON because of the laws in America about health insurance, and data sharing.

Google the possible consequences of having a 23andMe done and who can access your records.

Those tests give out your literal genetic blueprint AND THAT OF ALL YOUR CLOSEST RELATIVES (because you share DNA), to private companies that can use or sell it.

You should weigh the cost of the 100% chance of losing you/your families anonymity with the 4% chance your child isn't yours.

(I say this as a mother paying child support to a man that met me/my child when he was 3, despite me sueing for full custody and having 50/50 custody. So believe me, I get the horror of paying someone you shouldn't have to for 18yrs, it sucks, still wouldn't risk it)
