Sometimes the posts we read here can be depressing and consequently people often need to take breaks from this subreddit and the Internet in general.
It can be helpful just to take the time to reflect on the many good things we have around us just to re-balance our sense of proportion.
Looking around me, there are too many things for me to list, but in categories, here are a few:
Technology: I have access to electricity at the flick of a switch, so I can continue to be active after nightfall, there is hot and cold running water in my home at the turn of a tap and a car available, so in 5 minutes I can be somewhere it would take an hour to walk to. Also I have access to almost the whole of human knowledge for the effort of typing a few words because of this new information technology.
Environment: Summer is approaching, it's a bright morning and will not yet get unpleasantly hot in the middle of the day. Using the car referred to above, I can take myself to a bit of bushland in a few minutes. It's Saturday and my working week is finished, I intend to take full advantage of the weekend.
Miscellaneous: my cat, I have just consumed a can of Shine, good stuff, I am profiting from a long-standing habit of being happy, which is at least partly a choice, I slept well, I am in good health.
While not all of these things will apply to everyone, we all have things to be grateful for and it is well worth the habit of taking the time to think about them.
Feel free to add your own gratitudes in the comments.
