Everytime I see an article about a girl violating dress code it's her being told she cannot wear whatever she wants and being pissed and entitled. Everytime it's about a boy, it's them wearing skirts because they are just asking for the equal treatment the girls already enjoy. It's the same regardless of if it's in a school or work environment. Women get vastly more dress code options than men. Yet still seem to piss and moan that they are oppressed.

What is this issue with shorts?! They absolutely can look smart. My younger brother used to wear them when he first started primary school. Not to mention, although it affects us less, a lot of girls prefer shorts to skirts - myself included. Skirts were very rare at both my primary school and high school. I used to wear shorts with opaque tights pretty much every summer, if the weather was hot.

I mean, here's a pic of two school boys in New Zealand. And some kids at an Australian school. What's wrong with that look?

It makes no sense why skirts are allowed and shorts aren't in the first place. It's not as if shorts are more revealing; just the opposite, really. It seems like there are two issues here:

the dress code is bias in the first place to allow skirts and not shorts, since they're basically the same except shorts have more fabric in the middle and because traditionally most boys don't wear "skirts"
if a boy doesn't care about tradition and does want to wear a skirt, he's reprimanded for it

Together, it just seems pretty discriminatory to first say that boys who dress traditionally masculine don't have an option for shorter bottoms when it's hot, and then to say that boys must dress traditionally masculine. It's like they just want as few options as possible for boys

On a side note, I never understood why women (or anyone) say they want to dress the way they want to "express" themselves. If you need to decorate your body in different ways to express who you are then I feel like you must not have very much going on inside.

Headmaster Owain Jones confirmed pupils are only allowed to wear shorts with his say-so - but he hadn't granted the short OK this summer.

What a stupid policy. This is even dumber than outright not allowing shorts. You can only wear shorts if the Headmaster feels like allowing it?
