My son's school has done this, but also has decided that some of the boys are too active at recess.

Those boys don't go outside, but sit in the game room for recess.

This kind of thing is one of the big reasons that my boys go to a private school that provides lots of outdoor activity time, and actually encourages unstructured play.

Wouldn't the use of "again" imply that they had at one point stopped?

I'll just repeat my statement that pre-high school classrooms should be single gender, with teaching geared for the methods best targeting each group.

Both boys and girls need recess not only to burn off energy, but a lot of learning is linked to physical movement. If children are unable to move, it may actually cause cognitive developmental delays and social-emotional troubles -- this is particularly true for the extremely young kids.

I can assure you that the staff at these schools understand this, and they will try to give these kids plenty of opportunity to exercise even with reduced recess.
