This school policy is pretty blatantly unconstitutional. This is a public school banning students from performing a completely legal, and constitutionally protected, activity, outside of school hours and school grounds. Courts have previously ruled that courts cannot punish students for political speech outside of school hours/grounds. Now, the second amendment is different from the first in that I don't think it's been ruled to actually apply to minors. However, this is a high school so some students will actually be 18-year-olds, and the policy says nothing about the weapons rule not applying to students who are legally adults. I'm pretty sure that makes it a Second Amendment violation. Even besides that, a public school should not be allowed to ban students from completely legal activities outside of school grounds. I can't imagine a school policy that punished a fifteen-year-old with a learner's permit for being behind the wheel of a car with parental supervision would hold up in court.
