I am from C.I.S country (ex-USSR) and this law works absolutely everywhere, and men there pressure others to serve which is absolutely stupid, the only way to avoid that, is to leave your hometown completely and when you'll be called to military, provide the evidence that you are unavailable at the time, but other men who cannot afford that, ARE OBLIGATED TO SERVE. My dad served in the military, but then left once he finished, he couldn't finish his education properly and had to start it all over again :'(.

Even my cousin couldn't avoid it, some people hurt themselves on purpose to not get called out to military, my cousin however LEGALLY could decline that, but he couldn't because he is not "Blind enough" to not serve, he was given 1 year off to fix his eyesight and then he'll be called again.

I am disgusted by that law in general, and I am against it all the way, everyone should have a choice to serve or to not serve and that's a human right that is taken away.

Military suicides also happen here. It's not uncommon. Not gonna reveal but it's around 1year to 2 years of mandatory service with no pay. Even conscientious objection is illegal and a jail sentence on it's own. I used to have a plan to suicide with the gun in the army and there were plenty who did so before me.

Am Ukrainian and can confirm that this stuff is fucked up. Had to go to university so that I don't get conscripted for the next 5 years at least. Hoping the situation with conscription changes by the time I graduate. I've heard they're slowly working on ending it, but nobody's certain how long it's gonna take.

All they can do really is to continue to refuse to be forced to serve. Get some lawsuits going even if they don't make an impact right away. South Korea is the same but now because their are more and more people speaking out against it the south Korean government has or will stop sending them to jail and instead have them do some other service like community service or something. Change doesn't happen over night.

Honestly I think all conscription should be canned. To hell with war. I got a new way, for example-Creepy Joe wants a war with Russia, sure. Get in the God Dam Coliseum along with the VP and 5 top Whitehouse executives. Putin gets the same. You all get to pick your mid-evil style weapon and fight to the death. Us normal folk will make a mint telivising the whole thing. Winner makes the rules.
