The Gender Gap in Sex Offender Punishment

I wouldn’t expect feminists to be vocal about male issues. The very nature of feminism is to focus on women’s issues. In many parts of the world, undoubtedly women are treated as the lesser sex. I don’t think there’s a point in inserting men’s issues into feminism, that’s not what it’s for.

However, perhaps this is a result of toxic masculinity? The thinking of “Women are weaker, if a woman is in danger of a man, she needs a man to save her. If a man is in danger of a woman, she’s weaker, he should be able to handle himself.”

Now for the judges, why don’t we blame the judges for the inequality of punishment. It’s their literal job to enforce the law. The whole reason the gap exists is because they’re not doing their job. This isn’t a “woman bad” situation, it’s “judge bad.” We should be fuming about this! We need to be raising awareness about voting these people out!

Supreme Court justices, court of appeals judges, and district court judges are nominated by the President.

Merit Selection: Judges are chosen by a legislative committee based on each potential judge's past performance. Some states hold "retention elections" to determine if the judge should continue to serve.

Partisan Elections: Judges selected through partisan elections are voted in by the electorate, and often run as part of a political party's slate of candidates.

Non-Partisan Elections: Potential judges that run for a judicial position in states with non-partisan elections put their names on the ballot, but do not list their party affiliates. Terms for judges in non-partisan elections can range between 6 and 10 years.
