Have these people never seen a dove ad? There is tons of support for a female equivalent of the dad bod.
[–]SporkTornado 52 points53 points54 points 8 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link
Reminds me of their complaints about Grand Theft Auto. Despite the fact that all the people who you actually need to kill in order to progress in the game's story are men. On the other hand none of the game's missions requires you to kill women. Or in short, it's possible to beat the entire game and not kill a single woman. But, you can't finish the game without killing at least a hundred men. And they claim that Grand Theft Auto is meant to encourage violence against women.
[–]blamb211 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Violence = guns + privilege + testicles. Therefore, all violence is against women. Its not possible to be violent against men.
That actually hurt to type.
[–]snobocracy 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Wow. I'm honestly impressed how stupid that was, and how accurately that sounded like an SJW. Replace 'testicles' with 'testosterone' and I think we could actually bait the SJWs into using this...
[–]blamb211 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Um... I think I might be spending too much time on TumblrinAction...
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I remember ignoring that because these people are incredibly stupid.
[–]Neovitami 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
On the other hand none of the game's missions requires you to kill women.
If feminists argued there should be more female "obstacles" and villains in games, I could get behind that.

Given enough flawed logic, anything positive towards men is misogyny.
[–]govt_took_my_baby 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is what "misogyny" has become, anything pro male or disagreeing with feminism
[–]qdobe 32 points33 points34 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"It's my body and I can be whatev.......HEY DON'T LET HIM BE FAT THAT IS SEXIST!"
[–]Ultramegasaurus 74 points75 points76 points 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
We've had years of fat acceptance and propaganda painting body issues/eating disorders as female-only issues. Now we have a cute little social media trend, which will probably fade into obscurity really soon, and a few harpies go mad in jealousy.
[–]Keiichi81 74 points75 points76 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
"Real women have curves! Stop fat-shaming me!"
"Ugh 'dadbod'? Telling men that it's okay not to have an idealized figure is such misogyny..."
[–]blamb211 31 points32 points33 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because body positivity only applies to women, all men everywhere need to be 6'3 and bodybuilders. No exceptions.
[–]Kill_Your_Ego 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think that this is a stealth campaign by the insane HAES body positive feminists to continue to push for further brainwashing of men to somehow find their disgusting pig bodies as anything but. The HAES crowd at a different forum I occasionally post on are the ones who are trumpeting it the most. Soon they will use it to claim that fat women are being discriminated against. As you see happening here.
[–]MordorsFinest 41 points42 points43 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Its times like these that I'm glad that I live under a rock. The fuck is a dadbod? And what is that hormonal cunt complaining on twitter about?
[–][deleted] 33 points34 points35 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Dadbod is being overweight, more specifically having a gut.
They're complaining that people are saying guys can be anything other than fit. Despite ridiculous campaign that woman should be accepted as beautiful even when they're morbidly obese.
[–]Splatypus 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I mean, you can't change what you find attractive anyway. If women find it attractive, that's not the males fault...
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And if I don't find landwhales attractive, internet campaigns aren't going to change that either.
[–]Simify -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ooooh, I love when guys have a tummy. :o
[–]CaptainChewbacca 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Dadbod is what you get 10 years after a fit 30-year old gets married and has kids.
[–]ghostdate 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Or what I have after 1 year of eating sugary garbage and not caring.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Your other responses are slightly misinformed. The dadbod is someone who still goes to the gym, but isn't bothered with getting a six pack or anything. The best way I've heard it described is "big enough that you still know I could fuck you up, but out of shape enough that you know I still like to have a good time."
[–]sillymod 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Uh, there are all kinds of messages going out about how being larger isn't unattractive, and they are all directed at women. Look at the Dove advertising campaigns, for example.
This is silly.

I like kale.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Me too. I eat a cup of it chopped, with my breakfast every morning.
[–]Sour_Badger 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ditto I hide it in a protein shake with berries and shizz. Ok I don't like Kale but then gains!!!
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Kale is oppression of women! We need to fight the Katriarchy and recognize that women, AND ONLY WOMEN, are beautiful no matter what they eat! If you aren't drooling over pictures of the chubby girls, you are promoting kale culture!
Also, WTF happened in 2006?!

There was a report about it on SBS the feed tonight.... My wife wondered why i got grumpy after it. Pretty much it was this kinda crap. Its misogynistic urgh. Like there hasnt been heaps of push for women to see themselves as beautiful no matter what. But oh no someone thought men might have self esteem issue must be aimed at hurting women yeh thats right. Sorry slighlty ranty its just got a bee in my bonnet so to speak. The last year i have been noticing this stuff more and more

Relationships wherein one has an upper hand over the other should only exist among masters and their slaves. It's really disgusting when I read and see shit like that everywhere concerning romance, pretty much exclusively of women having the "upper hand" over their men. Such relationships are all doomed to failure and misery, unless you're into BDSM.
[–]0bliette 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's all a media construction. It went something like this:
Week 1: The bogus "Beach Body" fiasco. In which women ignored idealized men in the same ad campaign to create click bait for the feminist movement by asserting that beauty does not, or should not, exist - for women.
Week 2: "Dad Bod" mania. In which the same collective of feminist social media journos sought to further distract from standards for female beauty by creating out of whole cloth a bogus movement about male beauty (which also cleverly served as an attack on men). The idea being to reinforce reduced standards for women - by attempting to convince men to reduce their own.
Week 3: The wholly constructed "Man Bod" backlash begins! In which the manufactured social media story about flabby men leads predictably to outrage over women's manufactured victimhood.
TA DA! The cycle continues, with the entire thing somehow being men's fault. This is the world we live in.
[–]Solesaver 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Man, hilariously, didn't the whole Dadbod thing started with women? Women are oppressing themselves with their own misogynistic patriarchy...

I dislike the term. I tend to refer to these guys as "teddy bear guys". They look harmless to me and they give good hugs. Plus they tend to know their own strength so they don't accidentally slam a fist into my back when they give me a hug.
Overall, I'm conflicted. The idea that these guys are becoming attractive to women because they aren't incredibly attractive is kinda...It sounds weird. Like, it gets to that point where I'm wondering if they're using him in a sense. I can't tell whether they're attracted to these guys or the idea of these guys. You know, like, they want a guy who won't overshadow who they are but they don't actually care who the guy is so long as he fits the bill. I dunno, I don't understand how sexual attraction works so I can't figure out that part.
At the same time, though, you can see the idea through the lens of women choosing to see past looks and trying to love men for who they are the way men are encouraged to with women.

... when I have to eat garbage fucking Kale so I can feel attractive
I don't understand this at all really, sometimes I wonder if all the girls who starve themselves so they can be "thin and pretty" just do it to get attention. Do they work out? do they exercise? did they spend more than two minutes thinking about how you actually get and stay in shape?
It's not fucking rocket science to get in shape and staying fit. If you need to have a diet consisting purely of Kale (which is pretty nutritious I think, the Kale not restricting your diet to that alone) in order to maintain weight there is something seriously wrong with you.
Sheesh, some people. All you need to have a decent weight is to actually think about what you eat and exercise.
[–]ju87 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
It can be hard to lose weight when you're used to a life with x calories a day. Going to x - 500 calories a day generally requires a lifestyle change and the constant hunger, fatigue, and discipline required that may result can be too much for many people. The thing about food is that you can't just cold-turkey stop it, you must have a healthy amount of food no matter what. It is not easy for many people.
Source: I've been both over and underweight.

and the constant hunger, fatigue, and discipline required that may result can be too much for many people.
If you feel constant hunger and fattigue when you are trying to loose weight you are doing it wrong.
Most people seem to think they need to loose all the weight and fast. They don't realize that the best way to make it last is to go slow. It also means spending some time and figuring out what food works best for you.
If you want to loose weight and still eat well you have to pay attention to what you eat and drink and slowly go down to smaller portions and different foods.
Yeah it takes discipline and effort but nothing in this life is free. If you want it you gotta work for it, some more than others but still.
The thing about food is that you can't just cold-turkey stop it, you must have a healthy amount of food no matter what.
Which was my fucking point! The people who are complaining because they have to starve themselves to loose weight are doing it wrong. I never said it was easy I said it wasn't rocket science. If you want to eat more then move more to make up for it. As long as your input is lower than your output you will loose weight.
[–]ju87 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I actually ended up losing weight because of my innovative fudge diet. I would nibble on this incredibly rich chocolate fudge bar. It worked because it would satiate me extremely quickly, so much so I ended up ingesting less calories nibbling on the fudge then I did trying to diet properly.
It is hard for people who are not used to having to lose weight. They have to learn new skills such as diet management and many fail. Of course anything worthwhile is not easy, but that doesn't mean there will be large numbers of successes.

Yeah, no. Try eating three pounds of chicken breast and claim you're hungry and tired.

Fiber is much better for if you're trying to lose weight. Fiber is filling, and isn't a macronutrient - which means no calories. edit: to clarify, this is of insoluble fiber, which makes up the majority of fiber content in almost every food
Oats, beans, and vegetables in general are your BFFs.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Fiber technically contains calories. That said, it is very, very hard to convert protein to fat. Personally, I do not find fiber filling, even after eating like six servings of veggies and the like. I need protein/fat.
[–]trthorson 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Fiber technically contains calories.
Sort of. Insoluble = effectively 0, soluble = 4
Personally, I do not find fiber filling
I have a hard time believing your brain is wired to perceive hunger differently than everyone else (outside of placebo). So if I had to guess, it's probably because you're consuming mostly insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber is what gives you the sensation of being full.
Try oatmeal. Eat 3 big bowls, then tell me you're not hungry :)
Side note: It's not actually terribly hard to convert protein to fat, even though your body does try to direct it towards more "productive" things.
Also, in case you (or anyone else reading) is under the assumption that consuming a shitload of protein isn't a bad thing... there are definitely still risks associated with too much protein. But most people struggle to get enough protein anyway, so it's not something most should beoverly concerned about.

Fad? It's barely a blip on the radar. The dadbod is only half as popular as BBW (Big Beautiful women ) Fat women.
[–]HeyZuesHChrist 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Do you know who writes these articles about dadbod? Women do. I never heard of it until I saw articles about it posed on Facebook, by women, written by women.
[–]Palpetinus 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So they are saying they have to try really hard to get a nice body and men shouldn't be spared from fat shaming because of this.
Before that, they said it's really hard to get a perfect body as a female so if you don't get one it's fine too because everyone is unique.
Huh.
