Quite refreshing to hear someone not buying into the bullshit. Feminism tries to bring gay, trans, and POC movements under their purview, but insist they adopt a feminist framework. As near as I can tell, this is a bid to expand the definition of feminism to “egalitarianism,” while still keeping the sexist name and asserting their biased theories. I don’t think it’s a conscious effort—more a natural outgrowth of some well-meaning, but ultimately deluded and unempathetic feminists—but it’s still very bad for the movements being co-opted.

I was involved in gay rights activism for a number of years when I was young and this is pretty much what caused me to bail. When I started out it was great - aware of and focussed on what we were working to achieve and who we were working to achieve it for. But over time the leadership changed and the groups I worked with started creating "alliances" with other organisations and movements. It eventually (inevitably, I now realise with some sadness) got to the point where it was no longer about trying to do something about people like me getting bashed in the street, arrested and beaten by cops for nothing, being denied access to our partners in hospital or fired from our jobs - at best there was some lip service paid to these problems. It was about "the role of women", "queerness through a feminist lens" and a bunch of talk about how hatred of gay men was someway, somehow actually misogyny and required more feminism to fix. And then, of course, there was all the stuff we were expected to do to earn the "solidarity" of our new friends. Eventually I couldn't stand being a workhorse for a movement that still claimed to be about making society better and less dangerous for sexual minorities but in practice seemed to be all about middle class straight women and their struggle with their new skirt costing 5 bucks more than their boyfriends trousers. Even some of the older lesbians I used to know walked away.

I’ve met a good number of gay men who have said the same. I honestly wonder these days how prevalent feminism is amongst gay men. Have any insight on that?

I'm not really involved in "the scene" anymore, so my experience these days is limited to my extended social circles and what I hear on the grapevine - but over the last, say, 5 years or so I've started noticing a shift. Feminists are the butt of a lot of jokes and there is a simmering hostility that seems to flare up from time to time, especially when some female celeb makes remarks about gay men not "doing their part" for women, like Rose McGowan did a couple of years back. The MeToo thing is also having some effect, as I've even recently had openly gay guys telling me and they're now worried and avoiding being alone with female colleagues for their own safety.
It's worth keeping in mind that every place is different and has it's own subculture and also that I'm from a working class background and can't really speak to what the LGBT culture in the upper classes is like. But it certainly seems to me like there is change in attitudes toward feminism and (for better or worse) women more generally underway. It'll be interesting to watch what happens over the next few years.

Interesting. I imagine other shades of politics influence it a lot too. Thanks for the info, and I’ll be sure to take it with a grain of salt, as you recommend.
