This was murder, plain and simple.

Those cops need to be charged with murder, but we all know they won't be. The "thin blue line" is real.

This is utterly disgusting.

The first shot MUST (at least in Italy) make the "enemy" unable to fight back, NOT KILL him.

In Italy we call people like these police officers "Teste di cazzo".

There are boot lickers in this sub. No outrage over this

Summary: Ryan Whitaker was playing console games with his girlfriend past midnight and apparently they were loud. A neighbour decided to report it as domestic violence so "police would come faster". Police arrived at 3AM so he carries the gun and opens the door (not knowing it's police). As he sees police he puts down the gun and kneels. The moment he does he is shot 3 times at point-blank.

97% of police killing victims are male. In comparison, 30% of police killing victims are black and this has been regarded worldwide as the result of severe discrimination and racism. The gender factor in police killings is either ignored or discarded as a result of men committing more violent crime. Statistics do not agree however:

- Men are 49% of the population, commit 80% of violent crime and are 97% of police killing victims

- Black people are 12% of the population, commit 38% of violent crime and are 30% of police killing victims.

Yet apparently society hates men so much that while police killing of blacks is an issue protested not only inside the US but worldwide, police killing of men is not recognized as an issue or painted as a "male violent crime issue" instead. We will never have a "male lives movement" getting media support and we'll never have justice for men like Ryan Whitaker because years of hearing that men are violent, predators, monsters or criminals have been engraved within people's minds and our empathy towards men is all but non-existent.

A neighbour decided to report it as domestic violence so "police would come faster".

Jesus Christ... Somehow I think the neighbour should be held at least partially responsible for this murder

He should. In a normal world this would also serve to raise awareness about how fucked up our "guilty until proven innocent" mentality for men accused of domestic violence is. However we don't live in a normal world.

No hesitation, just shoot first, ask questions later. American police are easily the most trigger-happy in all the western nations.

[–]KxNight 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

They are also the only police that feel the need to use them at all

Must be time to burn down a city right?

Isn't that how it works?

We can defeat covid too!

It's sad and ironic that if men acted the same way as BLM do (which I'm glad we don't), even though it would be statistically more justified, the media would be having a feast with headlines of "male rage", "toxic masculinity" and male violence for weeks.

That's why I have no sympathy for cops. Even though New York Police Union Chief said that "all other cops are not him who killed George Floyd", but in reality they do support each other and always take stand for their own. In George Floyd incident the co-cop waited until he died and even in this case this cop didn't try to save him and instead calming her down.

[–]TheStumblingWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think it's that they support each other. I think it's that the corrupt ones form a powerful network that force the good ones to tow the line because otherwise...

Didnt he die from like a panic attack?

[–]mikesteane 4 points5 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Do US police not have to identify themselves when they knock on s.o.'s door at 3 a.m.?

[–]praetorfenix 8 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Just wait til you hear about “no knock raids”.

[–]Ody_ssey 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

If they had indentified as cops, they wouldn't have got that opportunity to make the situation look risky on camera which warrant shooting.

[–]throwlaja 2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Yea, but criminals also identify as police.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

And in the case, the police were criminals.

Straight up fucking murder, dude was on his fucking knees.

i think it's unfortunate, this ones tough, because he was holding his gun. I think the officer needs to go on desk duty/ be fired at most. If I was the officer in that position and if I "feared" for my partners safety I think I would have shot as well. I wouldn't be able to live with the fact that I let a fellow officer get shot. But watching the video I am sure i would of reacted just like the officer did that didn't fire.

[–]TheSpaceDuck[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

This would make sense if not for the fact that he was already kneeling and putting the gun down when the officer shot. Not saying it couldn't still be out of instinct (we'd have to question his instincts though) but it was completely uncalled for, especially coming from a supposedly trained officer.

[–]single2mingle001 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

well both of the officers were trained by the same department, yet reacted in two totally different ways. I did say I personally wouldn't have shot the guy, didn't seem like a situation like that. But also if I was the officer that was close to the suspect, I couldn't live with myself if my partner was shot. so it's a tough one.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
