It's the 'violence against women and girls' bit that really gets my goat.

We've moved from 'Women and Children' to 'Women and Girls', because although Boys happen to be children, they are still male, so what happens to them doesn't matter.

The whole thing is absolute hate-filled nonsense.

These "white ribbon" groups don't actually care about violence against women, they are just using these women as a tool to bludgeon men and peddle their hatred and bigotry.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Not just because it is collectivist but because, even by collectivist logic, it is completely backwards.

Our society needs to be apologizing for things like the male only draft, the nearly exclusive burden of war being placed on males, and hundreds, if not thousands, of years of laws that simply defined rape and domestic violence as something done only by men to only women. When we now know that the opposite can, and always has, occurred it was simply not criminalized.

Women who have benefitted from a lifelong privilege of disproportionate legal protection from violence ought to be putting on ribbons calling for themselves to be held equally accountable. Not permitting men to validate unfair and baseless gender-based prejudices against themselves.

Asking men to take partial responsibility for violence against women is like asking black people to stand up and take partial responsibility for crimes targeting white people.

It is not fair, and it is entirely regressive.

Let's take them one by one:

Afraid of?? I can well believe this, but it makes for a terrible sample.Killed? Depends on which city and what time period. Before domestic violence shelters became widespread, there were times and places where wives killed husbands at the roughly the same rate. By taking the wives out of the home and putting them in a shelter, ironically it saved husbands' lives. But then, we put those husbands in jail. So yay, punish the victim, eh?

Anyway, given that someone will challenge me on that, here's the research:

Mercy, J. A., & Saltzman, L. E. (1989). Fatal violence among spouses in the United States, 1975-85. American Journal of Public Health, 79, 595-599. (Examined FBI figures regarding spousal homicides. During the 10 year period from 1975 to 1985 found higher murder rates of wives than husbands <43.4% vs 56.6%>*. Black husbands were at the greatest risk of victimization. Spousal homicide among blacks was 8.4 times higher than that of whites. Spouse homicide rates were 7.7 times higher in interracial marriages and the risk of victimization for both whites and blacks increased as age differences between spouses increased. Wives and husbands were equally likely to be killed by firearms <approximately 72% of the time> while husbands were more likely to be stabbed and wives more likely to bludgeoned to death. Arguments apparently escalated to murder in 67% of spouse homicides.)*

Yeah, you have to stretch to reach this one. If you include all prison violence, gang violence, armed intruder violence, wars etc. it could be true. But its equally true that 95% of the victims were ALSO MALE.

White Ribbon intentionally lies to attract funding.

So much so, that men in Australia actually got together to start Black Ribbon (there's a fb page if you're interested) that publishes the TRUE figures of partner violence, in an effort to counter the lies, and make women's violence against men more socially visible.

On a quiet sunday afternood a few years ago, some guy was beating the crap out of one of my female neighbors, right in front of her powerless parents. Went over there without really thinking, took swiftly care of the problem and asked somedy to call the cops while keeping the perp pinned down.

Except for a swollen cheekbone and a bitemark on my torso, it was all good. Nobody thanked or even asked me about...anything. Nobody. Not the parents, the girl involved, the cops, the other neighbors who didn't do shit, standing there like good-for-nothing-except-bitching idiots. Nobody. Anecdotal but a true story.

So now you're telling me I should, as a man, take 'partial responsability' for violence on women and girls? Boys be damned of course. Please don't take it too harshly but whoever has organized this white ribbon thing can shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

I'm not taking "partial responsibility" for behavior I haven't engaged in. I take full responsibility for my own actions, partial responsibility for the actions of the few people I have high influence or authority over, and zero responsibility for the actions of anyone else. Men aren't required to accept collective guilt for a few bad apples. I stand against violence on anyone. Violence isn't a gendered issue. The white ribbon is sexist.

And is there a ribbon for boys who have been abused or neglected by misandrist mothers? What about minor boys who were statutory raped by adult women who were never held accountable, and were then forced to pay child support to their rapists? How about men who have been victims of DV by a woman and had zero recourse, because they refuse to strike a woman even in self defense and the police don't take female on male DV seriously? How about a ribbon for men who have had their lives turned upside down by a false SA accusation, or had their kids taken away because of a false DV or SA accusation during divorce proceedings? Are all women going to take "partial responsibility" for this violence?
