She's so obvious, it's funny. I mean, look at this shit:

Poverty was also raised as being the cause of domestic violence. When this is done my interpretation is that it is an attempt to “other” victims and offenders by suggesting it is an issue only for those with socioeconomic disadvantage.

While the dataset demonstrates greater numbers of police reports in poorer areas it also included the following:

"Non-physical forms of violence such as shouting, provoking arguments and controlling behaviours were found to be more common among offenders with higher levels of education and employment.”

"Offenders who self report coercive or controlling behaviours were more likely to have completed year 12 or above and to earn $100,000 per annum or more.”

That changes things. A lot.

In other words:

1) MRAs and other rational people pointed out that domestic violence is correlated with poverty and drug/alcohol abuse, not nonsense like "patriarchy", "gender inequality", etc.

2) Feminists don't like hearing those facts because they don't put the blame squarely & entirely on men.

3) This feminist author read the study and thought she'd found a real gotcha for the anti-men cause; but in fact

4) The section of the study she's pointing to says that violence is more common among families living in poverty, while higher-income families generally only get as far as a bit of shouting.

5) She's trying to paint this as some sort of anti-male revelation by invoking the feminist nonsense term "non-physical violence", but in reality she's just highlighting exactly what MRAs and other rational people have been saying all along.

Use the inevitably skewed reporting rates to retroactively justify that policy.

The spin is so hard I honestly can’t figure out what her point is.

She spends 3/4ths of the article bemoaning the fact that DV statistics are saturated with police and institutional bias and then concludes with the important reminder that men make up an obscenely high number of DV arrests.

We’re aware of that, honey. Male victims are more likely to be arrested than receive help.

Make your system fair and equitable and you’ll see that arrest ratio equalize.

That begins strongly :

Keeping in mind that this is mostly police data, we need to remember that police are much more likely to charge and incarcerate an Aboriginal person for all types of crimes.

Police are also more likely to do a blood alcohol level for an Indigenous person. So the data is skewed with a greater share of Indigenous perpetrators. It is well established that all forensic data demonstrates an over-representation of Indigenous people and this is unfortunately no exception.

It is important to note that those working in the field of domestic violence are very well aware of the specific needs and increased vulnerability of our Aboriginal population and continue to advocate very strongly for improved accessibility and treatment for all Australians.

So, first and second paragraph : the reason there are more aboriginal people in those stats is because of police bias.

Thrid paragraph : people who work in DV are well aware that it affects more aboriginal people and have been talking about it for years.

Basically "those stats are wrong. but we have also been telling about that thing they highlighted for years!"

She doesn't believe that financial stress can result in increased DV? She's supposed to be a psychologist? Police are more likely to arrest a male offender and men are less likely to report. When men do report to DV hotlines, they're most likely to be considered offenders so would these organizations even count their calls as victims? She also makes an assumption that it's the man who always starts reciprocal DV when in fact it's mostly women.

Okay, this person said they're a doctor, but they're a fucking moron. More than half of all homicides in Australia have alcohol involved

bidirectional violence, a fancy word to state that they were victims too – and were violent in retaliation.
