Teach your daughters to feel entitled
Teach your sons to feed that entitlement
[–]Jizzmaster3000 16 points17 points18 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This comment just caused me to have an epiphany.
[+][deleted] -13 points-12 points-11 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
That's fucking ridiculous.
[–]ThePedanticCynic 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Wait... which part? The fact that he's pointing it out, or the fact that it's true?
[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Wait, is it his interpretation of the image? Is it true? Not in my world.
[–]ThePedanticCynic 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I believe it's his interpretation of the image (which i think is an accurate interpretation). I can't speak to whether he thinks it's true.
[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We are agreed. I thought he was actually suggesting what he wrote. Now I think we're on the same page.
I bid you adieu good sir.

My first response was glib but after thinking on this some more I want be a little more serious.
This is a great illustration of a major double standard, one that it sometimes seems only MRAs are aware of. It's the same double standard which gender feminism simultaneously denies the existence off and actively perpetuates:
Women have value simply for being women. Men only have value through their usefulness to women.

"Teach your sons to be doormats".
[–]Bukkake_Monster 25 points26 points27 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, honey, that is why you are a sad old lonely woman who posts this kind of stuff on facebook, because men are bad.
[–]beetle717 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
WE NEED TO TEACH OUR SONS TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN:
a woman who flatters him and a woman who respects him,
a woman who is out for his resources and a woman who is out for him,
a woman who views him as an ATM, and a woman who views him properly,
a woman who lusts after him, and a woman who loves him,
a woman who believes she's a gift to him, and a woman who believes he's a gift to her.
And then we need to teach our daughters to be that kind of woman
[–]anonagent -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I know this is half a joke, but how can you really differentiate those things? especially the respect one?
[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because women can do no wrong. They are born perfect and remain perfect until some man makes her angry and bitter.
[–]Ultramegasaurus 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because it's unthinkable for a man to be as important as a woman
[–]dejour 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think it's a problem as long as you're teaching boys the same thing.
"We need to teach our sons to know the difference between a woman who believes she's a gift to men, and a woman who believes he's a gift to her."
Basically neither women nor men should settle for a relationship in which they aren't appreciated. Of course, people should appreciate the people they are with as well.
[–]Koalachan 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's nothing wrong with lust, as long as it's mutual and people don't mistake it for love, as is often the case. Lust is a perfectly natural feeling that drives our species arguably even more than love does.
[–]CakiePamy 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I find it incredibly infuriating with these posts. They are always about how women are majestic creatures who needs to be worshipped and men should be happy they are allowed to kiss the floor the women walk on. I was a mess before meeting my boyfriend, he set me straight. I am bless to have him around. Kids should be taught to find a person who will equally respect them and love them. Not a gender that will treat them like royalty.
[–]croutons-for-lunch 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"Teach her how to care for cats because she's going to be lonely as fuck acting like she's worth all that shit."
Also conspicuously absent: "Teach her to shut the fuck up about how good a man should be to her fat ass."

Well it's a common theme in nowadays relationships: Women often times think they're doing their boyfriend a favor simply by existing
[–]Vandredd 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah this is pure entitlement and gender reinforcing propaganda. Women are less and less likely to be forced into traditional gender roles by society while men are.
[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Definitely don't teach your kids to respect everyone and treat them as equals.
[–]Mythandros 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because OP, you are male. In our societies here, you are disposable. It sucks, and it appears to be ever so slowly changing for the better with more awareness, but right now this is how it is.
[–]TsarKartoshka 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
While it says we should teach our sons to be that kind of man at the bottom, I'm waiting for extremists to deride it for victim blaming. Isn't the current prevailing wisdom that women shouldn't have to learn or be taught anything, and that the men around them need to learn to cater to their needs?
[–]yoduh4077 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because... patriarchy? I dunno, I suck at sarcastic posts.

Why is it wrong investing on people you love?
I have invested a lot of money on keeping my GF healthy because I love her.
[–]ParanoidAgnostic 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It isn't. It's wrong when it's completely one sided. This claims that the man should invest in the woman but there's no expectation placed on the woman to put anything into the relationship herself.
[–]Faryshta 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I earn more money than her so I don't mind investing that on her.
She has invested a lot on me too in the form of time, patience and teaching me social skills i lacked before I meet her.
[–]Efarvanina 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Or it's just trying to say have your significant other treat you as if you are a gift to them. It works both ways. No one wants to even befriend someone who acts as if they are a gift to the world.
[–]awesomedude9496 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Couldn't the genders be reversed?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I find it morbidly amusing that the end doesn't suggest which of the two types of man demonstrated "our sons" should be taught to be.
[–]thereyouwent 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
god i saw this on facebook earlier and thought the same thing.

Because you should evaluate whether she can and will see you as a gift to her before you ever see her as a gift to you, and then you each should focus on the other being a gift. Let's ignore that this contradicts the bit about property, since a gift is an object for which ownership is freely transferred. Let's assume that by "gift", this perhaps means "blessing," "boon", or something along those lines.
To love another person is to put their needs and desires before your own. To love without having your love abused is for the person you love to put your needs before theirs. That is what the line about a gift means.
Before you ever say that you love a person, you should know them. In getting to know them, it is important to evaluate whether they can or will reciprocate your love. That stage of evaluation is the point where leaving should never be held against anybody. Protect yourself. You can't love somebody who does not love you, in the long run, regardless of whether either of you know it.
That line should be amended, but so should every line in this. Ironically, the MRM subreddit has neglected that nothing in that image should be gendered. In fact, I can slim it down to one line:
Let's teach our children to respect themselves and others.
[–]Gittiup 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
A man who believes he's a gift to women, and a man who believes she's a gift to him, and then we need to teach our sons to be that kind of man.
Why don't they slice the end of his dick off while they're at it.... oh wait, that's already checked off the list.
How relevant.
[–]jau682 -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
After reading these comments it seems that you are seeing an implication that isn't there.
I for one thought this picture was a step in the right direction from the opposite side, not an attack.
Cmv maybe
[–]dejour -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with you. There's a slight difference between seeing yourself as "a gift to women" in general, and being perceived as a gift by your partner.
No one should think they are a gift to mankind or womankind. But everyone (man or woman) should only be with relationship partners that appreciate them.
[–]Hrel -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with all but the last two sections. Treating a women you care about as special isn't wrong, it's the right way to do it. If she feels the same she'll treat you special in her way, caring for you in different ways.
[–]ThePedanticCynic -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because you make more money. The only way to balance that out is to declare that she is the gift, so she can be poor and it's fine. She's given you herself.

A woman can earn my respect by sucking my dick.
Because when I "invest" in something, I expect a return.
That was the point being made, right?
