/r/women was having a discussion regarding Men’s Rights in a thread titled: Help me to understand MRA, please o’ please. I cross-posted it to /r/MensRights because it seemed relevant.

Subsequently I received a message from gingerroot, a /r/women mod.

One of the aspects of the new mod policy re: banning deals with disruptive behaviour. Disruptive behaviour definitely includes cross-posting. Cross-posting a post in r/women to Mens Rights is generally done with the sole purpose of inviting trolls to come and comment (I've already had to ban comments and users as a result of that) in addition to the downvote brigade.

We won't tolerate cross-posting in r/women. In an effort to be diplomatic, I am PMing you to let you know this is disruptive. If you continue to be disruptive in r/women, we will ban you. If you want to be a legitimate contributor, we will look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Any cross-posting is banned? Say a cross-post to /r/books if a particularly relevant book review comes up? Or just cross-posting to /r/mensrights?

I understand if the cross-post is done with clear malicious intent. e.g. a cross-post with an inflammatory title or with an included comment inciting misogyny. However in this case we had a post asking for help understanding Men's rights. Further the ensuing discussion was very vitriolic and attacking towards men and Men's Rights. I feel that a cross-post in this case was warranted and not deserving of reprimand, let alone threat of banning.

The policy isn't up for debate and the thread isn't full of vitriol at all. If you act in a disruptive manner again, you won't be welcome in r/women again.

So I went back to the thread I had cross-posted and posted the following comment:

“FYI: don't cross post discussion from /r/women or apparently you will be banned. Even when they are discussing Men's Rights....”

I guess the no cross-posting policy is supposed to be a secret because she banned me after that.

In conclusion: Banning seems silly. It likely radicalizes people. And it’s not like it stops me from taking the whole 2 seconds to switch to one of my alt accounts if I really want to comment over there.
