Here we see a public figure SJW reviewing 50 Shades:

She makes some good points about how poor the story quality is, she even makes a true observation about how it sells women (uncharacteristically) short.

What she happens to miss is probably why she is so miffed to begin with: people are eating this garbage and licking the bowl. But she doesn't venture a guess, because deep down that's what really getting at her; she's the one living in a fantasy world, and the rest of the world is red as fuck.

The story quality is in fact poor. I am actually trying to read through it at the behest of a kinky girl in my life, but it's truly a chore. (I'm only to the point where she's thinking about the contract, and it just drags and drags and ^what ^the ^fuck ^ever...).

Women like her are used to seeing female characters in movies get propped up on the pedestal, fall for the charming beta, and equality ever after, so something like this offends the more acute feminist sensibilities.

The reason it is so unreasonably popular is because it has comically square archetypes explained in RP terms: sad beta orbiter, friend who makes her feel inadequate, alpha male jackpot. The only unrealistic thing about this story is that he's too young to have as much success as he does. Everything else might as well be a tell-all diary of real events.

I'm not really here to complain about anything, though. Just wanted to see if someone could actually think this wasn't fairly accurate (at least) to western culture today.
