Minor risk. Herpes is incurable but negligible. Most people don't even experience a breakout, and when they do, it's a minor itching, which is easily treated by medication.

Almost everything else is curable with antibiotics.

Seriously, people act like it's the end of their social life when they catch VD. I assure you; it's not.

The concept of serosorting for herpes boggles my mind. Ninety percent of the people who have herpes don't know that they have it, and of the people who know they have it a lot have only had one or two flareups. And herpes doesn't have silent symptoms. It's not like you get herpes and it's never detected and then your dick falls off. We can show-- with actual, epidemiological evidence- that herpes matters at all to only a tiny percentage of the people who have herpes.

Like, honestly, if you're planning on having more than three or four sexual partners, just accept that you have herpes and everyone you're going to have sex with has herpes and move on.

You should understand though, there's people on TRP who haven't got laid in years. Most women don't understand this because they start fucking the moment a relationship ends. Or slightly before. Mathematically speaking, fucking fewer chicks does not reduce the chance of getting HSV. The only ways to reduce the chance is to fuck less, or have better detection methods which could include testing before starting a sexual relationship.

This study indicates a chance of infection for men of 1.5 per 10,000 sex acts.

Why is monogamy no defense? Unless you actually test your partner or have some Jedi mind trick to tell if they are infected, then you are simply putting all your eggs in one basket.

Say 1-in-6 women has HSV. Over the course of the year you could spin 6 plates or you could pick one girl and stick with her. In the latter case, you have a 1-in-6 chance of having 6 times as many exposures to the virus. There is a slight difference if you use a compounded probability rather than a straight line calculation, but on a mass scale 10,000 sex acts is 10,000 sex acts (100 person years). Monogamy on a mass scale would reduce infection rates somewhat for the simple reason that those who end up with an infected partner can only be infected once.
