This post is only framed from the perspective of guys who have an active dating life. In that camp, I've run into two schools of thought in how to do things.

Hot or no bust camp:

There's the camp that tend to only focus on a fairly high level of women, let's just say 8+*, and won't 'slum it' or 'get laid' with like the 5's and 6's of the world. (Now, there are guys without an active dating life who do this as well but it's largely a defense mechanism to excuse not approaching and putting themselves out there, so I'm not really talking about them. These guys have standards and have the chops to succeed with these women).

Boner to bust camp:

There's the camp (my camp) that more focuses on some threshold (mine is just normal weight, cute, and (increasingly) not stupid). It's more statistically minded.

What I've noticed:

Guys in the second camp seem to always dominate in terms of absolute numbers of hooking up/getting with/whatever the "8+" women.

So it seems that the "lower your standards" approach to meeting women paradoxically screens in more hot women, IME. And it's not taking more total shots, either. Like, the guys in the first camp (at least the ones I know) are shooting their shot with pretty much every hot girl and ignoring the others.

Regarding the 'quality' of these women, I don't think it screens more or less high quality stunners. Expressed as a like...idk...percentage, the same proportion seem to be 'crazy' or 'out of their minds.'

What do you guys think?

Edit:

PS

I am basing this on people who are I'd say around my level in terms of 'hotness' or whatever. Point being, I think that is controlled for.

*I'm not really one for numerical rating but most guys use it so it's just shorthand.
