It doesn't anymore because women are graduating with degrees more and are taking the higher skilled and higher paying jobs that men all used to have. In response women aren't going to care if a man who is an engineer making 100k a year when in turn they are making atleast 60-70k a year.

My first serious boyfriend was a very successful young law student: first in his year in law, great internship etc. He thought he could cheat on me, and I would just put up with it to have money - he didn't realise that I liked him because he was intelligent and funny, not for his money. So I ditched him, and went on to find someone who is also intelligent and funny, but is loyal and has integrity too. I can earn my own money, so the fact that my now husband isn't rich doesn't mean we don't have a comfortable lifestyle.

I’m not quite “mega rich” but I have a number of extravagant cars, take expensive vacations regularly, and live a fairly flashy lifestyle. Women never seem to notice it, which is not what I expected would happen if I ever made a lot of money; I assumed gold diggers would make passes at me and women would try and use me to get free shit. Nope. Nothing like that has happened. I didn’t have a ton of trouble meeting women and dating them before I started earning a lot of money, and I still don’t... but I’m still having to do all the pursuing just like I did when I was broke. Having a flashy car or lifestyle has not in my experience led to women chasing me.

As a man, I always found it weird that some men have the expectation that making $120k a year and more makes you somehow attractive. It makes you able to provide well, something that is no longer necessary in many cases. My girlfriend makes a little less than me but she's still in a highly demanded engineering discipline. She doesn't need my money.

The only weird thing here is women expecting that their career and financial success somehow impresses men. It does not. You're able to provide for yourself? That's a big plus. But making $100k a year? Good for you, but it doesn't really change how attractive I find you.

I totally agree with your basic premise. In terms of the opposite sex, it isn't remotely useful to be the so-called BB any more.

There are numerous reasons for this, it's partly that women are more independent now, it's partly the shifting values in society (not that long ago it was normal to get married as young as possible, and to make family your primary focus).

And I think, most critically, it all comes down to the fact that we have all been inculcated into the belief that there has to be passion in a relationship. You can't be two best friends sharing things any more, if you're not desperate to tear one another's clothes off then there's something wrong.

Of course, this is completely unrealistic, as it doesn't last, even if it does manifest at some point.

So I personally find that women are not willing to settle for a steady provider any more. Even though there is more economic pressure on the younger generation than for many, many years. Partly women think they will attain independence on their own, and partly they want to feel the passion and romance, and are perfectly happy to be single if they don't feel it.

I don't think there even is such a thing as BB now, they're just either interested in you, or they're not.

I agree with this. Many women I know would rather have an attractive, kind man even if it means he’s broke. I think this has to do with sugar babies becoming socially acceptable (at least in big cities) and women excelling in their careers. If a woman wants a man for money I feel she’d rather just get a sugar daddy or sell nudes and still have a fwb situation with a guy she’s really attracted to. Plus regular men aren’t as into chivalry as they used to be like paying for dates and stuff so if we’re expected to split everything 50/50 then why would it matter how much money a man has?

I think though there is a difference, in that if you agree with the science then studies show that women still date and marry up, so for every woman that gets into a college or university there is a space that a man didn't take up which often means that men are less highly educated compared to women now. Given currently stats that's true, about 70% of grads each year in the west are women. So if you understand then that women still tend to try to date and marry up that obviously means about a 40% gap of women who aren't ever even in the running because if the sheer numbers, also given women outnumber men making them 51% of western population per country on average.

Most men on the other hand don't really care what your education levels are or what your job is, think of men sitting together in a bar, when I go out with mates I'm the highest earner within that group by a country mile, but that doesn't even come into it, we don't care it's just a tool, to pay for your life.

So for a lot of men then women getting high education qualifications is meaningless and in a lot of cases it's actually a massive hinderence to them meeting somebody.

On the other hand then you have men who are high earners finding out that's also not worth much to women who have their own money. So they struggle to meet women for a few reasons, first a lot of men think to themselves why should I pay for her when she's now earning her own money she can pay for herself, isn't that how equality works, that causes her to think he's cheap, him to think she's a bitch for expecting him to pay when she can.

A lot of men also lose out because they think one thing and then see that's not the case, women are interested in the job and the life because of the job, and seeing that isn't the case, they don't really know what else to do.

I think a stable income is very attractive, and it's particularly attractive when a man saves his money and spends it wisely. My partner makes a good living, but it's honestly how he saves it that I find very attractive. He saves for the future and for emergencies, so I feel safe. I am definitely going to try to retire early :) But you're right, wealth doesn't really attract me - it's how good a man is, how hardworking, and how considerate and understanding that attracts me. For myself and other women I've talked to, there's definitely a "does he have his life together" factor when it comes to dating. But that means more of, is he taking care of his health. Does he take responsibility for his actions, or does he blame others?

For me, I feel like my partner is very rich - by society's standards, he isn't, but I see him rich in an intellectual sense: he is constantly learning, particularly by reading all sorts of books and looking up tutorials on how things work. He constantly surprises me with how much he knows and how thoughtful he is towards others.

So perhaps wealth doesn't matter as much to women, but I would argue that maybe that's a good thing. It's not just about money and working the system and the paycheck, but rather about who you are as a person, and what wealth you bring in other ways (knowledge, leadership, staying calm when things get rough, being that emotional anchor that she can lean on).

Of course it does not attract them unless you are megarich. Money means little to them. It is all about 'the experience' (i.e. what it can buy), also known as wealth.

Women are full of betabux, willingly spending their money, more than ever in quantity and in numbers, women have access to a almost limitless source of revenue right after childhood and for a decade, maybe 2. It deeply warps their view of such resource.

Such absurd supply decreases the value of money to absurd lows, so much so young women today use it in almost every opportunity. Their money or otherwise. Present, past or future. Which reflect in their credit score, family budgets, house states and purchasing power.

Betaing is a dying strategy. True. But it will never cease to be. After all it is a valuable resource, and women care for it, even more when it becomes scarce (read as: they hit the wall).

First, education become less and less important in West, many doctors, lawyers and engineers are not as rich as people thought they are, for example doctors actually earn less than UPS driver on average. Second, community with monogamy culture(like Muslim) and immigrants could replace non-gynocentrism non-patriarchy population in future.

My job involves basic manual labour, although some of it is skilled and it certainly isn't the lowest paid

You should also take into account inflation. The amount of money existing in people's pockets (or companies pockets) has exploded in recent decades, and the "rich but not mega-rich" people are actually poor today, if you take the whole monetary mass into account. Ordinary drone-people don't realize this very much because most of the money is hidden from view in accounts and shares and things, but it's quite possible that the effect of money on women depends on the whole money mass, not just the visible one.

Having money and spending money are two different things. Nowadays there is something called credit. You dont have to have money to spend it.

Wealth doesn’t attract women because women now are moving into job categories with higher salaries that they typically never used to seek out, which are typically male-dominated fields.

That sets a new standard as to what proportion of wealth and resources they select for, which is more than what they currently have. If a woman is making $80,000/yr as opposed to $40,000/yr in a previous field, that sets the bar at $80,000 and above. Women don’t typically date down outside of looks and resource equivalence unless it’s for love. Women mostly date equal to or greater than their current value or wealth in terms of looks and resources.

“Mega rich” might sound like ~$100,000/yr to someone who makes not even half of that, but I wouldn’t put them in the same category as someone who makes $500,000/yr or more. Women still seek out wealthier or equally wealthy men because of where the bar has been set for their particular income. Nobody is going to dispute the argument that “more is better,” but wealth is somewhat relative to those who have it based on needs vs desires. There’s not that much of a distinction between the “wealthy” and the “mega rich.” The bar has only been moved a little bit higher.

I do not really notice this. Typically the guys who are flashy with money attract a certain subset of women. If they are good looking they don't really need to do that but the "something special" feeling that they get will likely be that much more special if the dude has looks and cash. Not going to lie as a guy I think it would probably be a pretty big plus if a woman I was into made good money, but I have never really met any women(and only a very few ment) that fall into this category.

Yep, it’s because we are college educated and make our own money. We generally want a man who is at least close to equal income to us (for example, a woman making 100k wants a man making at least 50-75k) because A. He’s on a similar level motivation/life wise and B. He can contribute to the quality of life of a family. Childcare etc is prohibitively expensive in many places, especially places with lots of high powered jobs, so six figures is not automatic “life of comfort, can have a stay at home spouse” deal like it used to be. Both parents need to bring in income for an ideal situation for children.
