Women are treated far more leniently by the criminal justice system.

This morning I interviewed a client who is charged with felony domestic violence because he choked his wife and left small but visible bruises. Fair enough the elements of the felony are present.

This afternoon a probation officer stopped by to bitch about the fact that the DA's Office didn't file any new charged against a young lady who literally almost ripped her boyfriends throat out. The photos taken by the responding deputy show the young guy covered in blood -- huge stips of skin and flesh had been torn from both sides of his neck. Yet somehow the girlfriend is only facing a violation of probation.

This kind of stuff happens all the time. Guys are charged with domestic violence felonies whenever possible but women really really have to work to get a felony.
