Most couples even in the USA are either looks-matched or feature a more attractive woman. Of the ones with a more attractive man, the vast majority are barely noticeable. It’s a very small minority where the looks disparity in the man’s favor is so lopsided that people even take notice

In Europe some men compensate for being ugly by having a great personality.

I have almost never, in my life, seen a couple where the guy was more attractive, and I've never set foot outside the US.

What I meant was, that there are lots of couples (so it seems) in Europe, where the culture is a lot different from the US, where the guy is significantly less attractive than the girl.

Yeah this is pretty much all I've seen in the US.

A lot of the men here/in the red pill sphere are straight up delusional on this, they either severely underrate women or overrate men due to personal grudges against women or whatever other reason.

I think you have to take a higher resolution look at things. On the whole, the US is probably fairly similar to Europe in the aspects you mention.

However, certain key demographics may be changing quickly. More importantly, these changes in possibly trend setting demographics may be worrying indicators of where the dating market as a whole is heading.

It is hard to compare how men and women prioritize physical attractiveness in the opposite sex. It is still probably fair to say that men still care more about female beauty than the other way around; however, this is a low-resolution summary. Both genders have different calculation processes in terms of how they weigh various attributes of the other gender. So there can't be an apples to apples comparison. Women are choosier in general. They tend to have more 'deal breakers'. And so on.

Given that women no longer depend on men economically as much as they did, it is natural (and probably a good thing) that women will prioritize looks more than in the past. This just means that their choices are more able to reflect their true preferences. That said, there is mounting evidence that women may be beginning to go beyond this and over-prioritize male looks for reasons that go beyond their true preferences or what would make them most happy. But again, this is mostly in the trend-setting demographics (richer, urban, younger, etc.). But they are worrying trends. And honestly, if these trends do continue, they are primarily an effect of modern technology and ideology. America may get there first, but large parts of Europe will surely follow.

I spent some time living in Prague (c. 2006) and travelling through Europe, and you are mostly right. Women in Europe tend to be better looking than their partners, but that's only half the story. European women are better looking than American women 9 times out of 10 because they're fit, feminine, and stylishly dressed. The threshold for what is considered "acceptably fat" in Europe is substantially lower than it is in the US, and 'average' in Europe would definitely be considered 'slim' in America. Meanwhile, in Prague, women are dressed in knee high boots, a skirt, makeup, etc., etc., just to leave the house to go grab a quart of milk. And what do we have? Chunky girls in cookie monster pants with septum piercings, and faded green hair, shuffling into Wal-Mart...

My roommate had a friend there who was British, and this British woman was probably about 5'8", and about 240lbs. She had planned to go home for Christmas because she hadn't been laid in like 18 months. She spent half of that time in Bangkok, and the other half in Prague, and was amazed that no men would even look at her. I was amazed that she could walk around Prague or Bangkok, see the women in her environment, and not conclude that on the average all of them were more desirable. Her conclusion was that there was something wrong with all the men she met.

No, women in America date similarly. Most women in America prefer personality and settle for what is considered subpar looks, which is why sex in relationships and dead bedrooms can become an issue if the girl isn’t intimately attracted to them. Unless you’re referring to obese people, but most young women (women in their teens and twenties, maybe even early thirties) are at healthy weights. Statistically, women are more likely to start gaining weight as they age, but this is due to letting themselves go. Which is similar in men as well. I think aging can make people depressed and succumb to this. Most rates of obesity in America reflect the older demographics, so in younger demographics, which consume most of the dating market, most people are at least healthy and average if not fit.

I think it’s also subjective when we speak of what dating down or up means. Some people might say your girlfriend dates up because they find you better looking, and vice versa. I think some people focus so much on getting a conventionally attractive partner that other people view as attractive so they don’t appear to be settling or get made fun of by friends, when in reality they find something more unconventional attractive. This shows low confidence and impressionable behavior though, which affects many people as the desire to fit in and the rate of alienation increases. So ultimately this scale of looks and who is dating up or down is pointless. Keeping up with the spectres of the joneses, essentially. What counts is if you are attracted to them or not and how that affects your relationship to them.

European women run a different selection game..not based on looks..but based on height..you are right looks donot matter much in Europe but height certainly does..Here in Northern Germany the height difference between man and woman (when they are couples walking down the street in city centre) is minimum 6 inches in the below 40 cohort....and more like 7-12 inches if the man is not good looking or plain looking...This is my observation over past several years in at least five big cities of around half a million in size each

Hasn't been my experience with european women, but south american women are definitely like this. You see some cute chicks dating some very average looking guys. It's a good thing though- indicates that these societies have some patriarchal norms left in them and aren't a shitshow like the US is.

Now, from what I understand, it does seem that in the US there is a heavier emphasis on looks(probably due to how huge OLD is there and how many huge cities they have ) but it's very important in Europe too. In big cities most women rarely date down in looks when they are young. Their standards start dropping when they are looking for a BB.

It doesn't matter where you are, for a woman to find you attractive you have to be good in a combination of looks, status and game(alpha traits) . If you see women that seem to date people that aren't good in these factors, she is just using him for betabuxxing.

Complete and utter nonsense. Tons of ugly landwhales are dating and in relationships even with good looking fit men. I also disagree with the notion that the woman is generally better looking than the man. From what I have seen they are either rather equal in the looks department or the man is the better looking one especially when you account for makeup. I live in Europe btw.
