Once in a while I am weirded our or irritated by something somebody says. Occassionally I worry one of the stranger people here will go out and do something horrible.

Occasionally I have a worthwhile conversation, but this sub is more along the lines of observing a psychiatric ward than anything else. That part is more interesting than a lot of the "debate", especially because TRP is basically the same dogshit it was a decade ago.

I take it reasonably seriously. If I’m not obviously shitposting, I’ll give serious (and often try hard) responses to people until they become hostile or argue in what is clearly bad faith. Then I either stop responding, troll them, or become more condescending, depending on my mood.

I like it either way. I just enjoy discussing this stuff and learning about it. Often I’ll refine my own ideas trying to argue with an someone being obtuse, so there’s still a win in there for me.

PPD is entertainment and I take it as seriously as I need to take it to entertain myself. I like to debate and argue so I do my best.

There are three things in PPD I always take seriously. People asking for advice. Young people that need to go outside and form a few opinions from experience before forming an opinion out of us weirdos. And the fact that purge time is seal time.

I like theory crafting systems and discussing macro trends. Anecdotal stuff in interesting enough as story telling is op is a good writer but I find discussions of big picture much more stimulating.

At the end of the day at the individual level no one owes anyone a relationship or sex and people can have as high or low standards but then they have to live with the consequences of those standards.

I take it seriously in that I actually think and apply reason and I’m not just here to troll and provoke people and appreciate genuine logical discussion where people are open to changing their minds or accepting insight.

I also keep the mantra “you cannot logic people out of a stance they didn’t logic themselves into” so if I see someone just being emotional and angry I don’t take them seriously so I either ignore or attempt to logic to see if they are just going to rant or maybe they can be logic-Ed out.

I rarely hear people talking like this IRL and if I do, it's clear that something is wrong with them.

Everything these people claim is bullshit.

They pretend that ugly and fat people don't date, fuck, get married, or have children. Average and normal people don't exist in this sub. Everyone is an insta model making six figures and they're the only "average" man getting ignored by porn stars that have sex immediately with everyone hot guy that they meet.

Nothing this sub says is grounded in the reality. It's just a soup of amusing nonsense.

I care about these posts and opinions but verdicts to these debates and the comments sections are a joke at best. Men cannot read our minds, never could, never will. (Considering the number of men on the internet that like pretending to be women these numbers are probably even more imbalanced)

Basically there's 80% of the sub that are here to humble brag about stuff/make themselves feel good by gaslighting people they think are "below" them/talking about themselves.(that would generally be the "I'm here for entertainment" crowd. Those people exist pretty much everywhere that isn't actively weeding them out and are just as much of a waste of space as anywhere else.

The other 20% can be taken seriously, but sometimes they get drowned out by posts about someone telling everyone about how their Tuesday went or how an opinion is dumb without mentioning why.

How seriously I take the debate depends on the manner that arguments are made.

Arguments and debates that I take seriously are expressed in reasonable manners, not intended to rile people up, attacking ideas, not people, and avoiding over generalization.

Meanwhile, if people present their arguments as a gotcha, use inflammatory language and insult people who disagree, then it’s difficult to take their arguments seriously.

Like, I see some sex-difference debate topics on science subreddits, and those debates can be made in reasonable manners, which I take seriously.

Not much. Depending on the topic, some arguments might be nuanced enough and presented well enough that it can be taken with some value to it. Others, less so.

I try to pick stuff I think is worth keeping in mind, but it's few and far between.

Doesn't help when people argue for the sake of "being right", and not really caring for the other side, like they win a cookie or some dumb shit.

If people want to take debate seriously, some gotta learn to get off their high horse. Others need to learn to take perspective, and actually understand what's being said. Too aggressive for no reason sometimes.

I take it seriously because I'm generally a serious guy. I'm bad at sarcasm over text and not great at it even irl.

But, I take the grain of salt that most people here are very damaged and it's important to recognize that people here are coming at this debate from a position of trauma and hurting, OR high neuroticism and disagreeableness (me) OR curiosity like looking at zoo animals (probably the most despicable and conceited), OR ideologically trying to prove a point.

I respect someone who has a consistent logical ideology.. I respect someone who's been abused by women or men in the past... I respect someone who enjoys arguing for the sake of conversation. Those whom I do not respect are the ones who feel like they're better than everyone else simply for not being traumatized or what have you. Have some fucking empathy and realize that if a woman baby trapped you or a man beat you you'd hate women/men too

I generally try to argue in good faith, because if the person on the other side is taking it seriously, then I consider it an asshole move to be a flippant jerk for no reason.

But I fully expect a good majority of posters here to be shitposting to some degree. So I'm not personally super vested in any given argument.

But if they are, then the result is basically the same because it's all just venting into the void anyway.

I'm writing fewer and fewer serious replies though. I've only been skulking this place for a month and I'm already just kind of jaded on the whole idea of trying to discuss any topics. Most people here seem very entrenched.

Most conversations about relationships and sex are a combination of platitudes, flattery, jokes with a point, projection and affirmation dressed as advice. Many people are afraid of how people will react and play with their cards close to their chest. People cobble together an understanding of relationships and sex from these statements.

There is a place for more in-depth conversations. Many of the concepts that shock people are only confronting because people are used to hearing what they want to hear.

The first problem with this post is saying it’s a debate. A debate has a winner and loser. This is more about sharing option. The second problem is the motives of each side. Men are looking to whine and complain about how awful dating is and ask for advice. Women are just simply going to lie or virtue signal about any answer they give.

I take it more seriously here than in real life. You can't even begin to remotely touch these topics in reality without a mob of people wanting your blood (metaphorically speaking that is). So I guess I have to take it more seriously here. Not that I take it all that seriously to begin with. People just plain suck. I was a much happier person before the internet existed. A cursory glance at the overlap scores of this subreddit (https://subredditstats.com/subreddit-user-overlaps/purplepilldebate) makes it pretty obvious that the user base here is composed in large part of loser incels and ugly left-over chicks. So, not very seriously. The debates I have seen here seemed very low-quality, with both sides just repeating the same bullshit over and over.

This is quite disappointing as I really like the idea of a subreddit where normal men and women could discuss topics related to dating and relationship.

You can tell they're authentic because of the amount of circular logic, inconsistency, and hypocrisy they're full of. There are a handful of people who debate in good faith. I enjoy reading their comments. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by take seriously. I haven't read anything on this sub that has caused me to fundamentally change my point of view and I doubt I've said anything to cause anyone else to fundamentally change theirs. It's something to do...kinda like an interactive video game. I take it as seriously as I need to take it while playing then when I've had my fill I log off and go outside.

First of all, there is no debate happening on PPD. In order to have a successful debate, you have to be open minded. The men on here are set in their ways and are not interested in what us wahhmen have to say. So really, this place is more of a rant sub vs a debate sub, which is fine but it should be noted one should not come here expecting real debates with people versed in certain topics.

How seriously do you think people should take the debate on here?

Given the maturity/emotional level of male posters, not seriously at all. I like to argue, obviously but I like to argue with people who, to some degree, know what the fuck they’re talking about and that’s rare on this sub. I use it for entertainment anyways.
