Let's say we socialize men and women to divide the overall burdens of a relationship 50/50, is this likely to create a situation where matching with a man of equal caliber and resources is truly a 'fair' exchange for women?

Or are there immutable elements that will, on average, make relationships inherently more costly for women? Perhaps male nature is such that they will never really, on average, be able to carry 50% of the domestic burden. Or there are female reproductive costs that cannot be compensated for by male effort during pregnancy. Or even the sexual desire imbalance must be compensated for.

And if you conclude than men will never, on average, be able to bring as much TO THE RELATIONSHIP itself as women, then does it make sense for women to always want some sort of upfront hypergamous compensation, perhaps in terms of him being higher relative mate value, higher status, more resources, etc.?
