This isn't specific to men or women.

During my time in dem debates I've noticed a trend: many have blamed their lack of success in socializing, whether friendships or romance, on them being "future time oriented."

For example, they couldn't grab a beer with friends on a Thursday because of Organic Chem or a Computational Linguistics course. And that's fair. I remember college and I remember having a heavy course load more semesters than not.

But I can't help, but think the whole "I was focused on academics, so that's why I sucked socially" line as anything other than a mega cop-out.

Being smart isn't unique.

Studying isn't a sport.

It's what you're supposed to do! (omg my inner black Tiger Mom is seeping through)

Maybe it's because I went to an Ivy League school where everyone was smart? But being smart simply wasn't an excuse to be a lame.

Many people in college were type A, and taking quant courses, and also working on their fitness, and also cognizant of style, and also knew how to party on a Tuesday if the duty called, which it did often. And ya know what? You were still expected to graduate as a member of an Honors Frat despite all the late nights of drunken hot ass messerdom.

I mean this was the Veterinary Medicine frat at my school.

I just want everyone to not let being "future time oriented" deter them from fun! That's lame! And unfun!

Enjoy the present! Fuck these heauxs! You too ladies! Do you! Because guess what? If you're smart with a plan, you're going to win regardless.
