I’ve seen here and there, comments implying that when the chips are down, our “true nature” reveals itself.

An example is that a frequent poster claims that in South America, where there is much less wealth, claims that RP is demonstrated everyday by women looking to climb out.

Certainly our behaviour adapts when we’re in survival mode, but does that reflect our true desires?

When all basic needs (food, shelter etc) are met and even exceeded (companionship, entertainment), we get choosier. With little consequence of being so we get to do what we want.

So which is it? Times of struggle or times of prosperity? Or both?

Which reveals the truest nature of our desires?
