Jordan Peterson is a clinical psychologist and professor at the University of Toronto. Some of you may know of him or heard references to him in this sub. He's well liked by TRP, but he is unaffiliated with TRP. In a recent Q&A, he was asked:

"What do you make of the Manosphere's claim that women's liberation has led to our weakened ability to pair bond, the breakdown of the institution of marriage, and sexual inequity in favor of alpha men?"

Sounds like a question someone would post here.

He contends that, at 0:30, it wasn't women's liberation that caused social change, but rather the birth control pill which kicked off women's liberation, and that the pill, not the social movement, was the primary driver of this change.

At 1:40, he says that the birth control pill results in psychological changes which can cause women to act more like men, based on psychological studies.

At 2:20, he says that, because of these changes, women are still "experimenting with their new mode of being". They have many new roles open to them, but no one has yet defined which roles they ought to pursue. He even mentions that women's happiness has decreased since the 1960's, which was a recent post on this sub.

3:00 - He goes into sexual experimentation as a direct (and reasonable) cause of women having the ability to have sex without reproduction. "The first consequence [of the pill] was wild sexual experimentation, any why not? What would you expect?"

4:50 - He says that women's lives have become more complicated because of this change (which could explain their unhappiness). He explains that women entering the workforce could have directly caused the price of labor to remain flat, thereby forcing people to adopt a 2-person working household. This could be the second prong on the unhappiness fork.

5:45 - As for the inequity in women going after alpha men, he contends that any breakdown of monogamy is going to do that. He said, "sexual access for males is a Pareto distribution." This is what TRP has been also saying for a while - the vast majority of women aim for a slim minority of men.

He doesn't speak for certain how these changes will ultimately result, but what's clear, and I agree with him on this, is that no one can know how this is going to end. As the feminists and BP'ers say, it could be a Utopian revolution where men and women are finally equal. Or as the traditionalists would say: it could be our downfall.

"Don't underestimate the significance of the birth control pill. It is like the hydrogen bomb, or the computer chip. It's a world revolutionary technology. And for all we know, it could do us in." - JP

What do you think? Do you agree with all/some of Peterson's assertions? What do you think will be the final result of the birth control pill?
