This meme gets circulated every few years or so.

Now it's circulating again through all of my female friend group texts, GroupMe chats, emails, and so forth.

Here's a screenshot of it.

Text from the meme:

"Marry a man who loves you more than you love him. My mother once told me: When you hold a man's hand and he makes your heart beat faster and he makes you feel giddy, and excited, walk away from this man. He is not the man for you. If you hold a man's hand and he makes you feel warm, safe and secure, hold onto him. This is the man you are going to marry."

My friend said:

Advice my mom always told me since a young pup. My cousin just sent this though. Food for thought.

This is the typical advice the elder women in my family have always given.

Basically - "Marry a beta... hopefully you will learn to love him."

I think it's well-meaning and optimal for securing a lovely family and homestead.

Though I see the pitfalls in this manner of thinking from a mile away. I don't think women actively think about "sex." So when she hears this advice or when women give it, they assume or hope/wish/pray the sexual chemistry aspect falls into place. And if it doesn't. It's not the biggest of deals.

However for men... it's probably the most important aspect. No man wants to be with a woman who doesn't want to have sex with him -- who doesn't get "excited on the inside" for him.

So PPD, what are your thoughts?

Ladies, were you told this or inferred it? How has it worked out?

Fellas, your thoughts? How would you alter the advice of matriarchs?

My thoughts? Damn, how hard is it to get you a man who can do both???
