So those are the only two options? Find a man to rely on or continue to rely on the men in your family? If his sister wasn’t pushed out of the nest and expected to make her way in this world at an earlier age, I’m not saying personal responsibility is out the window, but maybe it has something to do with her upbringing and the expectations placed on her by her family.

How many failed-to-launch young men are still living in their parents’ basements? It’s a trope and probably for a reason.

All of my friends have jobs and houses and have opposite issue often helping out other family members who are struggling.

Rich athletes often have family members and friends living off them.

If you are going to make this argument you should also find the woman's in question statement about being strong and independent. These are the kind of riches that do not threaten me, so i can only speak for my own self supporting ass.

I would rather be single than have a guy leech off me, living in my place and not pulling his own weight in a relationship, and that is what I state. This guy chooses to keep his relationship with his sister, even though it means she will leech off him. I don't think that a person who has that kind of money will choose half of it over his own blood on a form of a family member.

And being entitled is another problem. No matter how entitled she feels, she isn't. And no matter how entitled you feel to a woman settling with you, you aren't.

I've paid for my brother to go to a good private HS, paid for his two first years of college and have given him thousands for various stuff. Then tables turned and he has helped me when I have needed it.

If I was rich, I would gladly let my brother leech of me. I don't see how it's a problem that men help their sisters if they can afford to or vice versa. Specially when we are talking about people who can afford to. Different story is if a man is giving his whole salary to his single mom unemployed sister because she refuses to get a job.

This idea about men financially supporting women seems very alien to me. Why tf would a woman need a man for this? I guess low lives like this exist, but much more rarely in my culture.

Yeah, after my dad’s divorce he refused to settle and get remarried so I am the one stuck taking care of him, taking him to doctor’s appointments, cleaning his room for him. If only his standards hadn’t been so high he’d have a wife to do all that.

I’m been facetious, kinda. My point is only that yes, we are supposed to support our family members who are having a hard time. That is what families do. You can always refuse, but I would not act surprised when your family is disappointed in you for not being there. Unless your family member is a complete and utter useless mess and the rest of the family has also come to terms with that.

As far as I can tell, nobody is actually expecting this except for occasionally the women in question. People may try to get things off you, and if you don't want to, don't let them.

Where i am from the guys are depending on their sister for support. I guess it depends, maybe back then it was prevalent, but nowadays it’s less common for guys to have to take care of the family as a whole. Some people still live with family, I don’t think anything is wrong with that or for them to move out on their own. If your family house is big enough, you might as well. Family don’t act as husband substitute, the kind of support family provide is the best.

What about all the extra care and support many single women give their families and friends, that's a far more common situation in my experience, but of course women's contributions are rarely valued until they are withdrawn. However don't let reality interfere with your sexist hate fantasy about how women without a man are just a drag and a drain on male relatives just don't expect women to fall for your pathetic attempt to shame them into compliance

The only pressure you get to support a woman from your family is when we talk about mothers... And I would agree, including fathers too and depending of how good they were as parents.

But my sister? HA! She fortunately doesn't believe I have to pay for something.
