I mean, obesity in America still IS very much a variable thing based on a bunch of factors such as location (both urban vs. rural and city/state specific), social class/income, and education (probably related to social class/income, but worth noting).

America is heavily obese/overweight, but you still see a lot more of that at lower income levels, in rural areas, and in red states. More well-off coastal cities tend to not really have those same absurd obesity rates.

Both the city I grew up in and the city I live in now rank pretty low on obesity overall in the US.

TL;DR: Obesity is about income/class/location primarily, it isn't a universal issue for dating necessarily.

I've always been a thin woman, ranging from borderline underweight to the upper end of a healthy BMI. Most of the time in the middle. The majority of my exes expected me to be thin and remain that way but not judge them if they're not. In fact, even when I was borderline underweight they expected me to be thinner. Not to mention a laundry list of other traits. Being thin is just one of many ways men weed women out.

I used to be skinny fat. I went on a cut and lost a lot of fat. Now I'm bulking. Night and day difference when it comes to female attention.I'm 6'2 and used to be around 200. The only difference now is that I have less fat and more muscle. Got a lot of female coworkers hitting on me and get looks when I'm out. The only problem is that most of them are either taken and/or out of shape lol. Need to go somewhere where there are single fit women

I someone who is overweight but not yet obese (I think) I can tell you that it is not at all easy to lose weight (but I have done it before so I know what to do). Getting through college was easier for crying out loud. But I must do it because I have to fit back into my Union American Civil War uniform before Memorial Day. I am a reenactor and there is a reenactment then so I have a solid deadline.The worst part is that the moment you let your guard down you can gain it back rapidly, at least it works that way for me. The lifestyle change needs to be permanent or at least long-term and doing that kind of thing takes a willpower of as hard of steel, something that most people don't have.

As an older woman, this all seems so crazy and frankly, trivial, to me. Over the years I have been curvy, plus size, to pretty fat, to very thin. Weight has been/is the greatest boss battle of my life.I don’t eat fast food, pizza, sugar drinks etc. I even had weight loss surgery years ago, so even if I wanted to, I can’t eat a lot. That being said, I have slept with, been pursued by, and have had serious dating/commitment from fit attractive men. Actually, I think I only tried dating a fat man one time. It didn’t work out because he wanted to spend nearly all of our time together lying on the couch or in recliners, eating junk food. I didn’t need that sort of help and it’s just not my lifestyle. Also, because of his weight, he didn’t like to have intercourse with me. He expected me to be on top or just blow him/hand job or whatever. I don’t put that sort of effort in if it’s one sided. Anyway, my husband (sexiest man I know) weighs like 120lbs always. I’ve know him since his late twenties and now he his 53, still the same weight. We eat virtually the same food and if anything, he has larger portions. We work together and are with each other almost all day every day-so it’s not like I could hide eating a bunch of junk. I strugggle and still gain weight while he stays super thin. As far as exercise goes, I rake an aerobic class and he sometimes takes walks with me. We both gave the same physical job-so there really isn’t a moral value to weight.

Also, attractive, smart, fit men like attractive, smart, fit women at a surface level, but being fat doesn’t always equal unattractive or not fit. Also, when you really love someone after a while that stuff doesn’t matter. I think he is so attractive and other women in their late 40’s like me do too. There is a type of cat lady that finds him irresistible. That being said, I’d love him and think he is the greatest no matter if he gained a ton of weight or changed in some other socially unacceptable way. He is the love of my life. He loves me and doesn’t care if I’m fat or thin-just that I’m happy and self assured. When I gain weight, I begin to feel depressed and bad about myself, pull away from him and avoid social outings. When that happens, his issue is about the feeling depressed and bad.

Be kind to overweight people. They are struggling with something hard, just like most of us, but their struggle is very visible and strangers think it’s okay to comment/judge them/hurt their feelings/treat them with less respect. Don’t be that person.

Here's an important corollaries to that.

Obese/overweight people (both men and women) want normal weight folks, but then get butt hurt when they can't get them.

Additionally, if they happen to have a short term fling with someone that's conventionally attractive, that inflates their ego and becomes expectation. In other words, they will reject people on their own level. This may be why when a guy is rejected in a situation like this, he starts calling her fat, ugly, etc. Women are often confused by this because 2 minutes ago the due was trying to get in your pants without realizing that men generally have a lower bar to qualify women and go as far as find positives with her.

There are plenty of arguments on both sides that "fat men still want thin women" and "fat women want fit men". the difference here, of course, is only that fat women can still get fucked by fit men, but fat man are pretty much out of luck (not all, I'm fat, my wife was an athlete - rowing- BUT this combination can only really happen in youth when I imprinted on her. Which goes to the n-count/alpha widow problem. She also said she likes 'big' guys. Sometimes opposites do attract.)

But the only thing that seems to bring all the problems/nuances together are unrealistic (usually completely delusional) estimates of our own SMV and this hits women far harder than men because, as I already pointed out, fat chicks can still get fucked by (and have kids with) fit dudes.

Maybe fat chicks aren't 'at the main table' but they're still in the casino. Of course, vagina, or maybe I should say, women that are willing to use it, will almost always still be allowed in the casino even if they rarely get to play. There are plenty of men that would be glad to even be able to stand by the front door and hold it open for those women who would, in turn, treat them like 'the help'.

Hypergamy is SO STRONG in women. It doesn't matter if she's the weight of an average man (197-201lbs; source: https://www.verywellfit.com/average-weight-for-a-man-statistics-2632139) but she's the average height of a female - she STILL believes she's got a crack at fit men, and she's NOT WRONG, as long as she doesn't expect much in terms of LTR/commitment. No wonder that try to lock him down with a baby, it has a chance to keep him around even if just by blood.

Fat men that 'expect' a thin woman aren't delusional. They know the odds. It's not 'expectation' or 'entitlement' it's just hope. That doesn't mean they wouldn't get in with a fat woman (relative to weight - I've been there done that, she was still chasing 'jeep guys'). But I'd know that the fat chick would still be thinking about the fit guys that she used to have (or thinks she deserves) and would probably resent me and then cheat because: Hypergamy.

There are 2 things women hate most in the world:

Being treated like a sexual object.
Not being treated like a sexual object.

Let's face it, it's their main currency. Once the government came in to act like a white knight to all women but especially the ones on the lowest rung, it made those women believe they deserved men 'on their level' which was inflated and propped up by the gov. Everything is actively inflating womens egos because it's so easy to do because they want to believe it. And that's different than hope.

Hope means you know you're in a desperate situation but hope is all you got.

Hypergamy REFUSES to see how desperate the situation is. That would actually KILL far too many women. Like, they'd literally start dropping and killing themselves. Women's biology/nature knows they need the/a group. Exile means certain death. That's why SO MANY are on anti-anxiety meds. But that's another story.

I’m 20 not shredded or overly skinny but I’m not chubby either and can confirm on dating apps I only match easily with women that are more than chubby. It’s pretty frustrating cause all women have to do body wise is NOT GET FAT to remain physically attractive to 75% of the opposite sex. For me being not fat isn’t enough yet 75% of my options online are these fat women. I’m not expecting to land a supermodel but If I’m not fat I think it’s fair to want a partner that isn’t fat.

Live and let live but this is why we should never be forced or shamed into encouraging certain lifestyles like obesity through the guise of “body positivity.” There’s nothing positive about eating yourself to death and stretching your skin to the point it won’t recover without repeated surgeries. I agree with your point, but I don't think it's quite as dire as you point out. The BMI is very much miscalibrated, as it only takes weight and height into account and pays no attention to muscle mass. Body fat percentage would be a much better metric to track, but that requires specialized equipment to accurately measure.

Once I lose my excess fat I’ll still be considered overweight because I gain and keep a high lean body mess easily.

I have given up on dating in America. I will either move to Israel or find a wife in Russia, Eastern Europe or Asia. I am a conservative Jew so I want to marry a Jewish woman but I won't disqualify Asian women. American men need to understand they are AMERICAN! One thing I do take some issue with is that as a woman, when I’m able to work out consistently (medical problems have been preventing it for a while now sadly) I usually end up at a higher weight than when I’m not working out due to muscle gain and a broader than average frame for a woman.

To clarify, my shoulders, arms, hips, and legs are a fair bit wider than average. The shoulders and hips are specifically due to bone structure. I also have some hormone imbalances that make muscle gain and retention easier for me than the average woman.

That combination makes the healthiest weight for me (aka the weight I tend to rest at when active and eating well) in the overweight BMI category for women of my height.

In my experience, doctors took me less seriously when I was heavier but putting more effort into my health than they do that I’m so unhealthy I can’t exercise and my muscles have degraded significantly. I’m actually fatter now percentage wise than I was when I was 20 pounds heavier.

So while I absolutely agree that there is an obesity problem in America (I’d be delusional not to) I think some of the statistics are flawed and that there are some problematic misconceptions about health and weight.

Any statistics that focus on BMI instead of fat percentage are going to be flawed in that the overweight category is going to include people who should not be trying to lose weight, especially in regards to women as hormone imbalances like mine are becoming increasingly common. Unfortunately, fat percentage also isn’t perfect because fat is actually a very important component of hormone balance and estrogen storage (found that one out when I lost a lot of it).

On top of all that, the food industry in America is doing everything it can to exploit people who don’t know how or can’t afford to eat properly. Junk food is cheap, bad food stays fresh longer, diets are advertised anywhere and everywhere to trick people into buying shit that doesn’t work, etc. There’s no winning unless you’re rich and educated enough to be able to consistently eat foods that meet your nutritional needs without ridiculous amounts of added preservatives and/or sweeteners.

TLDR: I don’t think the dating market is quite as screwed as one might think due to misconceptions regarding weight and health, but boy howdy is America trying to make it worse.

Everyone wants to believe that weight loss is just diet and exercise (even supposedly edgy redpillers unafraid of examining “dark truths” of human nature) , but the science has been in on this for decades, once you get fat, you’re fucked, especially in a country that gets a quarter of kids obese by their teen years.

Just look at the data on the control group in the article above who followed all the right nutrition and exercise advice vs the group given meds, who also followed the diet & exercise advice. The former only lost 2.5% body weight vs the later losing 15-20% longterm.

Not a new insight at all, decades of research have shown yeah someone can lose 20,50, even 100 pounds shortterm, but within a 2-3 years, 95% of these people are at their old weight or heavier because of the body’s set point system, i.e. evolution designed us to maintain weight not, not to lose it because we never lived through environments of constant caloric abundance for most of human history. https://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/magazine/tara-parker-pope-fat-trap.html The new insight is only that we can make a medication to disrupt the set point system.

With something like this you might be able, within a generation or two, to take obesity down to 1960s level where the rate was 5-10%, though the high cost and insurance companies uncertain about covering it, that timekine will be delayed for 5 or more years.

To be clear, theway I envision change happening is not through medication alone. I imagine people will see the effect pf medication on the obese, that that is the only way to actually lose weight when you’re excess 30-50 lbs or more, and that hopefully feed back into more restrictive diets for all since people know the only alternative is medication, especially for kids (its fucking nuts how much junk we get kids hooked on), basically shifting norms of eating for the population at large. I definitely think this could revitalize the dating scene in fat ass western countries for a while but it is worth noting countries like Japan have kept obesity in check to a fairly low rate and yet they seem to suffer all the sexlessnees issues plaguing modern, educated workforce countries, so stopping obesity is likely not the one-simple trick to solving things.

I am Brazillian and I live in Rio de Janeiro but I have paid TV channel and I like to watch a program called my 600 lb life and most of the obese participants are married and many men told in front of the cameras that they actually like obese women and I think that is true. After all they got courage to tell something about their personality in a tv program that million of people watch.

I don't care if a woman is moderately overweight but of course I don't like when they are very fat to the point to be morbidly obese.

I don’t have a six pack, but I can run my 2mi in army time (I usually run 4mi at a good pace on mondays Wednesdays and fridays). Supposedly I have an attractive face (some women said that) anyways I’m 181 lbs trying to get to 175 lbs. I actually look thin with my clothes on, but I’m a stocky man with a big gut (I’m trying to do more tva exercises as well as eat clean). My ex was 4’9” and 100 lbs (thai) and I’m 5’7”. I would disagree not on the basis that I don’t think obesity decimates your SMV it really does but when it comes to the active dating market we are primarily talking about people aged 18-30, what % of that demographic is obese/overweight probably a lot less than the general population. I see this talking point a lot in male self improvement circles “it’s not that hard to be the top 20% when so many people are out of shape m” but that’s not reflective of your age specific dating pool and competition. I go to college I’m not in America so maybe it’s different my country still has a high obesity rate like any western developed nation but most guys my age I see down the street aren’t hideously out of shape. Are they all fit and athletic? No but it’s no where near a 42% obesity rate. Compared to when I go to a supermarket it’s mostly boomers who are obese and people 35+.

The pandemic sure made it easier to stay indoors and a lot more convenient to order fast food. Even pets are obese.

You can always do the opposite: Go outdoors and eat less fast food.
