In a discussion with u/LewisCross, he made the following observation:

I will say that porn completely skews how attraction and sexual initiation actually works. someone on here pointed out once that women's sexuality is reactive and doesn't present at all like it does in porn scenarios, which is precisely correct...

And it got me thinking about how porn has evolved over the course of my lifetime - from the shameful secret room at the video store, to easily downloadable - and how it misleads men into thinking women's sexuality works.

In porn, women are generally portrayed as having male sexuality:

  • They're turned on by some sort of visual (the pizza guy, the pool guy, some exercise instructor who is too studly to resist, etc)

  • Getting women in the mood often involves very little effort - sometimes, just flashing them

  • PIV is enough to cause orgasms

  • Squirting

It's worth saying that I like porn as much as the next person, but I can't shake the feeling that some of the frustrations that are vented on this board are a result of false expectations created by porn.
