Needs change throughout life. When you were 4 you needed your mother in ways you don't need her now anymore.

Having a partner that denies you sex is harder than spending the night away from each other and not having sex. To compare it to that 4 year old: if the kid falls hard while playing alone and mommy isn't there, it will pick itself up and cry it out alone. But when mom is present, it will run to mom for comfort. Now let's say that mom is there but she denies comfort. Doesn't say anything, or denies that the child is hurt, walks away etc. That hurts the child.

You can also live entirely on flavorless supplements and never eat real food. You won't die.

Having too much food is bad for you. But food itself is still a need.

Therefore saying that a need can be an addiction isn't really much of an argument.

Under Maslovs hierarchy of needs sex falls under the psychological need tier. It isnt considered a basic need but it is considered as more necessary than a lot of the self actualisation and self esteem 'needs'. Its on the same level as family and sense of belonging.

Calling anything a need sounds like an addiction; there are good and bad addictions of course, but relationships based on addiction are never good thus friendships/companionships is and should never be a need. I've spent years as a sex worker and I do think it's a need. But it's not 'about sex' - sex signifies the acceptance of you as a sexual person. And this is also kind of wrapped up in men traditionally feeling unable to have intimacy with anyone but their sexual partner.

Men want to feel desired and have intimacy, and sex functions as a huge signifier of this for them. I consider it detrimental to someone's mental health if they want to but are unable to have sex for too long a period.

Sex is a basic human need like communication, companionships, emotional support, love and human interaction. Go enough time without any of those and you will start to have serious psychological issues.

If your spouse continually slaps your hand or makes you feel bad for wanting sex than that person is not your spouse, that person is just a friend.

So often I see on the internet horrific justifications for using sex as a weapon. The use of it to get someone to behave the way you want: reward or punish makes no difference. ChorePlay? Sex matters to men and women. Lack of physical intimacy is just as harsh as lack of emotional intimacy. Both genders use it to manipulate the other.

Well, the same applies to how many calories you need, or how much water. You could survive on the bare minimum, and many HARD CORE religious people (especially in Christianity) do it. Sure, you might start to go a little insane but you WILL SURVIVE. Barely surviving and meeting your genetic desires is different, but the latter is what mother nature intended. Hence it's a need.

Well, many junkies WILL DIE is their withdrawal is too quick. My psychology teacher told us how many drug addicts need to still take drugs even in rehabilitation because if you stop them too quickly, they will literally die. SO the government creates drugs for them, and gives them less and less as the time passes. So for many drug addicts, their bodies DO treat that drugs as a need like food and water, and their bodies will literally shut down if the withdrawal is too strong and too quick.

I think men and women look at sex markedly differently, and I think it colors your opinions by a noticable degree.

I dont see how you can bring out this kind of argument without understanding what its like growing up as a male.

I mean, you're technically correct, but it just reeks of tone-deafness.
