The core issue is that the average male testosterone levels are plummeting, this is a result of xenoestrogens and what not in the water, food and pretty much everything else, its just about impossible to avoid

You can even find male fish that have mutated to have female genitalia because of this, men are being "betafied" so to speak

Current western lifestyles and environments are a minefield of compounds that have potential to negatively impact any number of bodily systems. Shitty diets, pesticides, air pollution, household and industrial chemicals, medications, treated water, lack of exercise, etc. Declining fertility health is certainly alarming, but it should come as no surprise.

Didn't read the article, but I'm just going to speculate it's correlated with the rise of obesity.

Obesity has a way of making men (and women) unappealingly androgynous (fat deposits secreting estrogen, poor circulation killing boners, gunts trapping heat by the testicles, etc.)

Ok, so it's specifically something happening to western countries where men's sperm count is plunging by almost 2% per year.

Edit: why are pesticides brought up. Are they not using pesticides at all or not using the same ones in Asia and South America ?

The fact that we dont go outside and spend all day bitching about who dies next on game of thrones is causing it mostly. Not "the water omg!". I mean don't chug soy milk, as that will cause issues at high enough levels, but the most important thing is how pathetic society is with physical activity.

Go outside. You spend 1 hour less a day with your Steam summer sale games and fucking pick up a dumbbell, run sprints, etc. It wont kill you

With out having read the article, and realizing that I may sound tone deaf, my guess is that decline in sperm count in Western men is noticed only because women are negatively effected.

One rumor is disposable baby diapers. The theory being, iifc, is that they hold in considerably more heat than just cloth, and the rise in temperature is enough to hinder growth/development.

They should really make sure to find out what the causes are to counteract that development. A 50% decline might be manageable even in the long run, but who knows how far that'll go?

EDIT: Several people here have blamed shitty diets and the lack of workout regiments on top of pollution. This reminds me of an article I've read a few weeks ago from a journalist who started an experiment with a hardcore diet and workout regimen over the space of 8 weeks: The guy started cut back on carbs and alcohol while starting some sort of paleo diet; and simultaneously started an increasingly exhausting workout (he couldn't even do a single pullup at the start).

Now it's not as if the program did wonders (his BMI got from 23 to 19, which is arguably pretty decent for 8 weeks), but he documented not only how he got slimmer and stronger, but also more energized (and needing less sleep) due to these changes in lifestyle. It would be to be expected that the same lifestyle also affects sperm counts.

PS. I bet it's all the garbage food guys eat. I watched SuperSize me about the guy eating McDonalds and I specifically remember that guy's gf saying he could barely get a boner.
