Considering "cool" is subjective, it's hard to answer broadly. Most art jobs/music/acting in general... though actors who haven't "made it big" can be viewed as kinda cringey.

In terms of low-paying jobs that people admire you for, social work/shelter worker, jobs where you help the unfortunate, working with animals all seem to have a pretty net-positive affect on your social standing.

Doing research or being a professor. People will focus on the fact that you've got a PhD but you've got to give up and move to industry if you want the money.

Software Developer. Depending on the field and company your salary can compete with doctors or lawyers, but from my experience the job carries negative status.

I work in tv and while I can maintain a car and apartment in an expensive city I'm not as rich as my friends who are engineers or the like. I'm going to move up the ladder and make more but I do enjoy the fly by night freedom my work gives me.

People are often impressed by people who work in media or are active in stand up or the like. These things sound glamorous but aren't that hard to get into by some metrics. Some girls will immediatley sort you into the Cool Party Chad category irrespective of all else.

Artist, musician, teacher, academic

The first two because they're both creative fields with a focus on aesthetic beauty and make up for lack of financial success with romantic potential (career-wise).

The latter two because teaching is a thing somehow? I was never really sure about that one... but having some inherent authority over people, perhaps being an outside consultant for important affairs, having a public sector job and access to networks/benefits, contributing to a field of knowledge, etc., are all attractive to the right woman.

Generally any type of government position that wears an uniform will make a lot of women feel the tingles.

So like entry level firemen, military members, prison guards and cops will typically fit the bill of being both low paid but desired by a lot of women.

I think it goes back to the "men are protectors" instinct that's been entwined in all of us since back in the caveman days. A guy sitting in a cubicle all day plugging away on a computer just doesn't have the same feeling no matter how much money he makes to plug away on the computer.

Architect.

You have to work multiple jobs in the world of architecture/design to live a upper middle class lifestyle.

Or you do it long enough to win some prestigious awards or get published.

Most of my lecturers and tutors at university were architects who taught part time.

If you manage to start your own studio and get good reviews on your work and continue getting projects then yea it’s very lucrative but I haven’t seen that happen to anyone under 40.

For the amount of work they have to do, I’d say they are really underpaid.

However if you do make it big like Norman Foster for example. Then your imo overpaid.

It’s not easy to scale the worth of an architect or designer because it is subjective.

In a lot of parts of the country, firemen are paid really well. In some places, they're paid shit. I guess if you found one of those areas where they were paid shit it would meet your criteria.

Firefighter is a common one. Women love to say their boyfriend/husband is a firefighter because it evokes the image of a super jacked, good looking dude who rescues people. Basically a typical harlequin romance novel guy. There was a study done at one point comparing different jobs and incomes. I'm a little hazy on the exact numbers, but it was something like "using fake dating profile information, it was determined that a firefighter earning $50k was as attractive as a waiter who earns $200k a year".

Airline pilot is also "high status" but doesn't even pay very well. Although I think if you fly the really big jets, it does. Although that takes decades to work your way up. It's also not an unskilled job.

There are no low paying, unskilled jobs that have the status as jobs of the surgeon/lawyer/CEO variety. None. Not a single, solitary one.

But there are low paying jobs where the men tend to be more successful with women. Basically any job where the guy has a lot of influence and power within his niche social group. Bouncer comes to mind. He shares a two bedroom apartment with seven roommates but when he's standing behind that velvet rope he's the most important person at the club. He decides who gets in and who doesn't. He decides who skips to the front of the line and who has to wait. He's the king of his castle and master of his domain.

Then probably any job where the title exceeds the pay. So Non Profit Director (usually they make like $50k unless it's a huge national one), and college instructor (ok money but not for the amount of time invested unless you're tenured).

Then there's the entire "long term prospect" like Medical School Student or intern. Negative money in the short run, high potential long run.

Soldiers make truly shit pay. Beyond poverty-level wages.

There's incentives and various benefits that can compensate for that, but for the most part your basic enlisted has signed up for a truly raw deal, unless they're able to move up the ranks enough to make it worthwhile. Career enlisted soldiers can end up safely middle class, but you spend at least a decade paying your dues before that and god help you if you fuck up somewhere along the way.

Park Rangers. They always have nicer gear, but humble gear, nothing overtly niche like ultralight backpackers. Just something reflects clear love and experience with the outdoors. They get paid next to nothing when compared with doctors, lawyers, researchers at prestigious institutions, engineers, etc., but their lifestyle and value system doesn’t place much importance in money. And there’s something about that aspect in addition to love and commitment for the outdoors that commands respect.

Organic gardener for "individual invite only customers". Why? Because people only imagine the successful times and peaceful and meditative parts of the whole experience? If so, they do have a point. There are all sorts of positive "nesting inducing" qualities associated with the activity as well, which ones they are is your homework until Monday.

And food,... love goes through the stomach. Setting up a neat place for eating and spending happy together times close to the garden is not ultra necessary, but helps. Imagine the veggies used for the light snack by the firepit in the evening, they don't get any fresher than that.

The melting doesn't necessarily have to be explicitly sexual, and it's the post-wall age bracket that appreciates it more than the padawans do.
