IME, in teens/early twenties, women are more emotional than men. But as they go through life, it seems to reverse. I think once women have their heart broken once or twice, they become very pragmatic about relationships (but try to hide it). Men become more cautious as well, but are less successful at it. They protect themselves by spinning plates, etc. But they get tired of that after a few years. And the years of loneliness just makes them more vulnerable to falling hard for the first girl they really connect with on an emotional and intellectual level. Men seem to be more selective than women about who they fall in love with, but have a much harder time moving on if it doesn’t work out.

A good question but probably impossible to answer.

All humans seem to have pretty strong emotions. For millennium I believe people have seen emotions and rational as mutually exclusive but this doesn't seem true to me at all.

I wonder if there is any way to measure emotion.

Its probably about equal, but because men don't have as many emotional outlets as women, their partners tend to carry the entire burden of their emotions. That's why men seem so needy in relationships.

I think the variance of sensitivity and emotionality in men is very large. Some men are likely even more sensitive and emotional than women. Some men aren't very sensitive and emotional at all.

I don't see emotionality as a percentage or a value, I see it as a curve. If we were to graph it, the axis would be "emotional response" vs "level of stimulus".

Being a soldier in a trench with artillery going off around you is incredibly high levels of stimulus, and many men can keep their emotions under control in these situations - even if it causes PTSD for the rest of their lives. On the other hand, the same man may decide to throw fists out of anger if some man in a bar shows mild disrespect towards him.

Men care about women's issues, women generally don't care about men's issues. Women know, for example, that men have to undergo an unfair societal expectation in making the first move, etc., but women still force men to do it. Single women get sympathy from single men, single men get attacked as an "incel" by single women.

Women tend to be collective and support each other, men tend to be competitive and bring each other down.

I think men are more sensitive but who has "more emotions" isn't something you can generalize. I think that the world has circled around treating men's emotions like objective truth for so long that men forgot they have feelings because the world was structured to enable a peaceful (white) male existence compared to most and now no one has any peace and it's all falling apart. The idea that women can't have sex without involving feelings is laughable. I know a few I wish had. The idea that men can always have sex without feelings touching it is equally laughable.

In my experience, both men and women are about equally emotional and sensitive. But I’ve noticed that men fall hard and fast at a younger age and get their hearts stomped. And then have a lot of trouble from there on. I've actually heard a Chad type guy I knew openly say that he had his heart broken when he was in his teens ( he was about 22 when this conversation happened) and because of that he purposely goes around trying to break women's hearts. Better them than him, was his reasoning.

Also in my experience, the women I know are very pragmatic emotionally and capable of kind of turning off their emotions sometimes. It's something I've never seen a male do. I've seen men pretend to turn off emotions, but really they just buried them or kind of turned off their brain so they never have to deal with them or think about them. But when ever it surfaces its always been hand in hand with melt downs and a big scene. The women I know and have grown up with are very caring and nurturing but they can turn into cold hearted robots if they see the need to. Especially when it comes to their children.

I think men are more emotional, but they stifle it. And women wear their emotions more openly, but have the ability to detach.

I’d say both are emotional and sensitive in their own ways. Just because men don’t care about the same things as women and vice versa doesn’t make any side less sensitive than the other. Men care about a lot of things but there are plenty of things we don’t care about that women do care about, and we care about things at different times or in different situations from each other, and in some instances we might care about the same things at the same time.

I grew up in one of the roughest schools in London.

There was a lot of macho posturing and hyper masculine bullying etc.

It’s only when I left and reflected just how “emotional” the boys would get when trying to express the exact opposite.

A wrong look, a comment, not finding a joke funny, was met with ridicule and/or violence (mainly empty threats)

It’s all about what you define as “emotional”. Is it ‘crying’? Women win. ‘physical aggression’? Men win.

We are socialised to expressed the same emotion in different ways. So when asking the question you gotta get specific, cus IMO everyone is just as emotional as each other and let it rule them and it’s fucking annoying!

Myself in particular (not men vs women) I know that if I get feelings with someone it happens fast and it happens hard. To the point I have to hold back and "act cool" while I wait for her to either catch up or things don't work out. Sometimes for weeks. In fact I agree with most of the quoted text. Right up to "Lots of men use sex as an excuse to get you into bed for a cuddle.". While I personally need sex to establish and maintain connectivity, sex is it's own thing. Cuddling is also a need, but not the same one - and usually covered by a variety of "PDA" activities or watching movies together or whatnot. My %0.02 and user mileage may vary.

There's going to be selection bias there though. It's a question that asks a minority of women who have a specific behavior in common what the difference between them and a larger pool of men is.

I don't think there's a question that women are naturally more emotional. The majority of women I've known in my life have a more difficult time thinking than feeling. They also seek emotional dominance over others, where men seek sexual dominance. Emotions are their milieu.

I think what those women you polled are seeing is real, but it's because men are becoming more like women, due to unnatural environmental hormonal changes and unhealthy sociological pressures. The converse is also true...women are becoming more like men for the same reasons. Things have not always been as they are today, and I'm old enough to have seen the changes.

Also, notice that the women you asked didn't deny their own proclivity for emotions, rather they just threw up strawmen that men also have emotions. Of course men have emotions, but in our natural state, they aren't our primary motivator like they are with women. Notice that responding to a question with a fallacy is an emotional response, not a rational one.

This question is in some sense obscured by ambiguity. Emotions are the driving forces of human activity and in that sense men and women should be identified as identically emotional simply because everything that they choose to do however rational has an emotional impetus behind it.

Men are driven by their emotions. They are not, as a rule, disproportionately dispassionate or apathetic.

What people are talking about when they say women are more emotional is that they are typically on a hormone roller coaster and put a relatively disproportionate amount of effort into compassion and agreeableness.

They may also be inspired by the enlarged space in which women are expected to show emotion and how they use this space to emote in public in ways men ~~do not~~ are less likely to do.

I think much of this has to do with the fact that women have emotional outlets within heir friendship circle. If shit hits the fan, I have mates who will come around for a cuddle, make me a cuppa and sit on the phone for an hour.

Some men (at least of a certain demographic) don't have this with men. They usually demend entirely on their partners for this kind of affection. So if they're single, it's problematic.

But sure, I am a woman but, I can concur that generally women are the more sensitive and emotional sex. But I think there is good reason for it, and it can be used in positive and practical ways once you learn to control them.
