Feminine looking pretty boys still have pretty sexually dimorphic features. No ones mixing up Timothee Chalamet for being a girl. He's a more feminine looking guy, not a completely female looking guy.

IME for the majority this is very age dependant. It's really mainly very young girls that like a twink type. They grow out of it. Women into beards increases heavily with age. By 35 they want a freakin lumberjack. I think overall women are quite unaccepting of feminine men.

I think this isn’t really true in the first place and to the extent that it might seem so, would just be due to social pressures pushing women and men to behave different outwardly.

I remember making fun of a more masculine girl as a teenager but only realized years later that I did so because I was into that. And felt embarrassed by it.

I’d say a lot of the men that outwardly act repulsed by masculine women are confronting a similar lack of acceptance of themselves regarding what they’re attracted to.

If you’re actually not attracted to whatever part of whoever, you’re not going to spend much time thinking about it. You just wouldn’t care either way.

So inwardly? I’m pretty sure there are plenty of men into masculine women, just as much as there are women into feminine men. Men just see less room for it to be socially acceptable to admit to.

My theory is that women evolved to find men most attractive when they are in a range of like 70-80% masculine, instead of 100%, because he needed to be masculine enough to protect and provide, but if he was too masculine, then he might actually be a threat to her.

This is not mirrored in male sexuality because we don't have to fear women physically hurting us in the same way, and femininity, unlike masculinity is negatively correlated with dangerous traits. So unlike them, we find women most attractive at 100% femininity or as close to it as possible.

So to get back to your question, men are already optimally attractive to women at as low as 70% or maybe even 60% masculinity for the aforementioned speculated evolutionary reasons--as a starting point. Combine that with those "pretty boys" perhaps not being quite as "feminine" as you think they are. Because although they may look feminine for a man, they are typically still more masculine than feminine, and how you'd know that is by asking yourself "Would I, as a straight man, find him attractive if he looked the same but had a vagina?". I'm guessing the answer is no.

So these "pretty boys" are probably closer to 70ish% masculinity than you think. But even for those that really are more feminine than that, it stands to reason that preferences would vary between individual women somewhat, so there would be a subset of women whose preferred range dips lower than 70% or even 60% masculinity. So having accounted for all of that, it kinda makes sense.

First ‘masculine’ appearing women are a minority. I’d even say ‘fit’ women are too. So whether the majority of men find muscular/masculine women repulsive, or not, doesn’t affect the majority of women. That said as a whole, most men are accepting of most women.

Think most everything I can think of has been addressed - at several angles.

One thing that hasn't yet is the masculine looking woman as a type for gay women. If she is emphasizing her masculine look in dress, hair, etc., and he doesn't know her, there is a strong possibility he might think she is gay. While many men have no problem with that for an acquaintance or friend some do. Also, there would be zero chance of anything developing romantically.

Whilst there are women with a thing for androgynous men (often into various alternative music genres), they're a minority. Of course, lots of women like youthfully handsome men, which isn't "grizzled and butch" but certainly isn't "feminine" either.

It seems to me like the OP is conflating "youthful male handsomeness" with femininity or androgyny, but there's a difference between these things.

Most women, in my experience, want conventionally attractive masculine men... so handsome, often youthfully handsome. Some like the more "butch/grizzled" look but plenty don't, and some like the more androgynous look but plenty don't.
