From what I have seen women who want commitment and babies and have a timeliness do exactly that. In more conservative areas where that is the norm you see lots of cute youngish moms with meh husbands. I assume the partners they are with have other important qualities.

I believe it is mostly because of the word "date-down", or "settle", as I more commonly hear. It should be reframed to "what percentage of your idea of a perfect spouse do you need to hit to be happy?"

Anyone who says they need 100% of what their idea of perfect is, would be laughed out of the room, but when people say they don't want to "settle", that's exactly what they mean.
